Because I like prepping for stuff like this, and I'm going to make J let me get his house ready, since I don't have my own place, lol.
Flashlights, batteries, candles. Make sure our phones are fully charged. I'll get some bottled water to drink, but he has city water, so at least we can run water. And he has a gas stove, so we'll be able to make food.
I think I am just going to cry at the possibility of a huge storm.
I am going to grab flashlights and some food today. Depending on what they think is going to happen on Sunday night we might have to bring up all the boxes out of the basement in case it floods, lock it all up and head to my mom's.
Our area was evacuated in Sept 2011 so I am guessing we will be again.
I feel like hurricanes are so much more scary to me than an earthquake because you can see them coming and I would be stressing myself out. with an earthquake, you have only seconds to even process what is going on.
We bought water and batteries. We have a gas stove so well be able to cook. We will fill our car gas tanks and make sure our phones are charged. We have flannel sheets and warm blankets Oh, and I'm going to do all our laundry so we have plenty of clean clothes.
I hope the power doesn't go out for too long because I really don't want to lose our food. During Irene we lost everything.
Here in MA we are supposedly getting all the wind/rain, snow and tornadoes. Spectacular. ETA: It's supposed to peak on Tuesday/Wednesday here so I'm hoping for a couple days off!
Before this I had plans to take my grandmother to Walmart tomorrow morning so I will get some stuff there to make sure she is ok and some stuff for us too.
I need new batteries for my flashlights. Hopefully it wont be ransacked :/
I have candles and such. I also need a manual can opener.

I'm not doing that much. I'll probably get extra dog treats for the pups because they're scared of thunder. We have a gas stove and I have matches. We have some jugs of water that I bought for Irene, and some candles/flashlights.

I'm dreading the store this weekend. We're visiting my MIL so we're going to have to make a pit stop on the way home. Probably grab some ice for our cooler and some random snacky things.
honestly, if we lose power for another week, we're abandoning ship and checking into a local hotel for the week. I'm not doing it again. Not with an infant.
DH has just zero clue about what bringing up everything from the basement entails. He's all "no big deal!" Our entire life is pretty much boxed up in the basement right now and I have no idea where we are going to put it upstairs.
Don't forget about your pets! Make arrangements for them if you need to Our cats were ok in the house with blankets, but my poor dog was not.
Also, my gas stove, the burners were the only thing that worked. The oven is powered by an electric glow plug, so we couldn't get gas going on. We cooked a lot on the griddle instead.
Water and I am going to stock the cooler full of ice (in case we lose power). I feel bad, H always gets stuck dealing with the storms while I am on travel.

I'm not doing anything. We already know how to hunt, skin and cook our own food over an open flame. We already know how to boil water over an open flame. We have tents and all that stuff from all the camping we do.
Well I take that back. I have all of our important documents and treasures we want to keep in a fireproof safe, so if we leave we will make sure we have that. Other than that I think we'll be ok for a catastrophe.
Part of the upside of being a redneck. We can live off the land and not rely on others for help.

lol at tents, evee. the mental image I get of a tent in a hurricane. lol!
lol. During Irene I cooked over my camp stove too. But it still blew chunks. Grocery stores werent open, all the fresh food in my fridge was spoiled. Even camping requires some preparation. ETA: Do they make sleeping bags for 3.5 month olds? Yknow, so he can sleep by the bonfire to stay warm?
