Name idea: yes or no?

DH and I are not even close to being decided about a name. We thought we had one for awhile, but I'm waffling and want to consider more options.

What do you think of Russell, NN Russ?

Russell/Russ is NMS. Probably because I knew a Russell & he was a snob.

We considered and it was in our top 5 for awhile but we never really loved it. We really loved Russ, but we weren't crazy about Russell.

DH does not like the Piers spelling, but Pierce is on our list. It does sound a bit like a law firm combined with our last name though.

It passes my tests for an acceptable name. Gendered, spellable, traditionally actually a name. That's all I ask of strangers naming children. I would not think "Russell" had parents that didn't really like him very much on the day he was named.

It's not a bad name at all. Just NMS but it is also one that has not been popular recently. So if that is a key point then by all means keep it on your short list.

I don't like, sorry. The only Russells I know are both in their 60s, favor short-sleeve button downs, are bald and wear thick glasses. I can't get past it as an old man name.

Yup. I like Russ better than I like Russell, mostly because I have known one person who went by each and far preferred the Russ.
