You don't need them. I have no clue about theories and whether they are right, but I just went with what we had at home (regular blinds). We lived in FL so it was bright sunshine most of his first year there. I don't think I trained my kid to sleep well, he is just a sleeper.

My kids are 6 an 9 and have never had blackout curtains. They sleep just fine. DD #1, in particular, napped incredibly regularly and for long periods as an infant/toddler. She did give up naps early (around her 2nd birthday) but I'm pretty sure that has nothing at all to do with the curtains in her room since she wouldn't nap anywhere at that point.

We have them. We didn't until the kids were older. Same with the sound machine. They still wake up obnoxiously early. But without them they woke up before 5 instead of before 6. And mostly it helps with them going to bed at 8.
