Travelling alone in Vietnam?

I finally booked my tickets to Asia last night and despite my nerves I added a week in Vietnam...and now I'm freaking out! Anyone been to Vietnam solo before? My general plan is to just tour the north...but any tips/tricks for being by myself would be greatly appreciated I've been to SE Asia before which I'm hoping will help...

I travelled alone in 2002 and for some reason didn't feel comfortable in HCM City but more than comfortable in the rest of the country. I visited HCM City in 2008 with DH and didn't have the same concerns - I think it was my own travel experience and also a change in the city that made me feel this way. The Vietnamese people are more than friendly. Your an experienced traveller from memory, so you should have no troubles.

Exactly this.

Not that there was anything wrong with the north, but I definetly enjoyed the south more. I felt like the people were warmer and friendlier.
