This is Seesaw Guest. I don't understand why this board has no policy against flaming. Attack the argument, the opinion, not the total stranger at the keyboard. There is apparently no expectation of civil conduct on this forum. I have been exercising my right to bitch about it and meeting more "rudeness". It's funny to me that you talk about the rudeness of walking up to a real life conversation without an intro when none of the treatment people want me to swallow would be cool in a real life conversation either.
LOL, it's the nest. Bitchiness incarnate, that's why it's entertaining.
I like that people can post as guests. The annoying things about TN was the # of lurkers who NEVER posted. I like that there is an easy and fast way to get lurkers in the covno.
You have to admit that more than 1 person in a thread with only "guest" in their name is confusing. No, you don't gotta post all the AWy crap some of us put into our siggies and whatnot, but at least call yourself guestA or guest24601 so we can address you specifically.
I'm with Reeve on this one. We all "know" each other but the new people don't know us from Adam so if they want to lurk and occasionally post as a guest I see no problem. Now if that person decides to post more frequently then I would urge them to get an account. It's just easier.
FWIW, just from my random interactions with other forums, nesties as a whole (and I'm including even local boards) are tougher than the general internet population. I've accidentally bulldozed people in conversations outside the tn/tb bubble.

Yeah, I have to agree with this.
Unless you've ever stumbled into 4chan. Those bitches can be crazy.
My biggest reservation about pro boards v the nest was the fear that we wouldn't get random new people spouting off ridiculous opinions and getting huffy about being criticized for them.
I now know how wrong I was and now realize there is no reason to ever return to TN.
Carry on ladies and gentlemen. Carry on the awesomeness.

My biggest fear is that there will be so many randoms it will start to read like comments at a newspaper. This place will really blow if everytime a random posts something stupid they get all butthurt and whine about a flaming.

I agree too, but I also think this board is rare because even when someone is a total spaz, we give them a chance to unspaz. Often, we give them lots of chances. Its a good thing. We call each other on our bullshit, but we also put up with a certain amount of it before a poster gets relegated to Sisu Status.

This is such a good point. Despite outward appearances, we are a very forgiving group in the grand scheme.
Speaking of, where is hawkeye? She didn't ditch us already, did she?

That was exactly what came to my mind when someone said something about flaming.
I can't figure out why someone who wants a no-flaming policy would hang out on a board that doesn't have one, particularly someone who figures Christian gays who aren't comfortable with church doctrine should just go start their own religion.

I haven't been here long enough to see if anything like this happens here, for me or anyone else I've seen flamed. It is fun (if you're not a sadist) to discuss things and share stuff in a civil environment. Try it before you knock it. I'm trying your way even though I think it's shitty.
I've never looked around on such a large board before. I've only been to fan boards for music artists, where people show their hand made glass beads (a fascination of mine) and places where amateur artists show their stuff. The talent in the world is amazing! Maybe there was an expectation of civility in those places because there was unity under love for this or that art or artist. They had off-topic threads about your favorite food or what do you think about open carry laws too. There were people from all over the world, lots of Europeans, Aussies and Canadians. Surely those groups were more diverse than this predominantly American member list? It's not hard to get along.
I feel somewhat mislead by the seriousness of the topic category. I realize now it's not as serious to everyone. I just don't know why they post their dumb shit in a serious topic. I have never seen a forum that would tolerate someone starting a thread simply to bash another poster or call them out for a fight. Most of those other boards had a very present Admin or owner of the site that happened to favor order. They didn't want their boards trashed up with flames instead of being a real place for fans to gather and talk without abuse.
I thought this was a place for fans of a topic to gather and talk. So far it's been a randomly hostile place with little purpose and few rules (and even those are selectively enforced).
I am still hoping it'll turn into what I wanted it to be. I tell you it bugs me that amongst this many literate, computer user Americans, I can't find some decent adult discussion of current events and politics. It disappoints me like the problems I see in my country and in my culture. I can be patient though. There's always more people in the world that may login and not be an ass. The internet could be such a beautiful sharing tool. Shitty people just share shitty stuff and I wish they wouldn't.
Whoever implied I should let things go, I can't. New offenses continue to arise. I just can't allow abuse, injustice and intolerance to stand in my face without calling it out for what it is. You get what you give in life.
Seesaw, we are a group that transferred over from a different board and we have a relatively long history with one another. Consequently we have our own, firmly-established dynamic. We love having new folks but if you are thin-skinned or easily offended, or, most significantly, lacking a sense of humor, this board will not be a good fit for you.
Frankly, the fact that you have charged into an established group and started demanding that our behavior conform to your standards is more than a little rich and does not augur well for purposes of your ability to participate comfortably here.

don't forget "unnecessarily long-winded". because if your first 2 lines are crap, i'm not reading that shit.

I was really going to stay out of this until read your latest "holier-then-thou I'm better than you tirad." Who do you think you are? You don't get to waltz into a board and start judging us. You are the newbie - you walked into our turf.
Politics is a very serious topic but the majority of this board has been discussing politics together for several years. If we took it seriously all the time, most of us would have offed ourselves years ago.
You can't hack it - get the hell out. No one is forcing you to stay. However, if you decide to pull yourself up by your bootstraps, buy a couple of pairs of big girl/guy undies - stick around. We actually like different perspectives but you would know that if you took a few minutes to actually read instead of immediately judging.
Who would want to be on a message board that has an anti-flame policy? UO thursday and FFFC would be down right boring.
I was a member of a board that ended up banning all "hot button" topics after the 2008 election. Politics, religion, everything. It was so annoying- they have a mod with a god complex and she would swoop in and shut down threads just because they had potential for some debate. I left because it was so boring after that.
Ditto, IIOY, who said it much more kindly than I was going to. Your posts reek of an entitled, 22 year old bebe.
It's the internet. You are free to post here or not. What you aren't free to do, without a large amount of ridicule and flaming, is come on to a well-established message board and start whining that you don't like the rules or the tone, and that both should be changed to suit your needs. Especially when you didn't even want to make a screen name, and have done nothing but whine and criticize since you came here.
I am free to have my opinions and express them. I do not feel that I have a better than you attitude. I feel I have a you're being very disrespectful to me attitude, please stop. Maybe you missed the beginning where I was polite and said please and thank you like a sheltered civil little poster. I tried to tell you where I was coming from, that I had no experience with this sort of cutt throat kind of board. I was met with flames, learned how things worked on here, now I'm trying this new thing bitch for entertainment value.
I want to leave even less when you intolerant people try to make me. Hey, at least I am trying to accept and conform to your shitty rules of conduct instead of asking all of you to leave. Does being here longer than another give you some partial ownership of this site or authority over newer members and guest behavior? Who the fuck do you think you are then? Top bitch?
If you want to have an exclusive little club house, you might want to lock the doors. As long as access is free to the world, you won't be free of me or any other guest who may find your bitchiness shitty.
I point out what I'm doing and what I would like to see because I foolishly think it will help improve the way that I am treated. Guests have no right to protest unfair treatment and call bitchass when bitchasses show themselves? I knew better. There is no golden rule, especially on the net. I tried being civil. I've tried being mean. The "established" crowd will band together and bash you where ever they see you. Franklin's liberty is dead on this board.
And you think I would want a screen name so you could prejudge my posts more easily? I shoud never have compromised with wawa and went by Seesaw so consistently.....
