UGGGGHHHH!!! I have been racking my brain for days trying to figure out if we should go to the Bunratty Castle Medieval Banquet -- can someone else who has been there help me decide??
Background -- DH & I are travelling with our 4 & 6 year olds and DH's parents. I've been to Bunratty a few times (pre-kids & mostly drinking at Durty Nelly's), but never the banquet. My in-laws are from Ireland & the last time they were in Bunratty for the banquet was nearly 30 years ago when my DH was a kid.
DH and my in-laws say they don't care what we do & are leaving it up to me to decide. According to the million reviews I've read on Tripadvisor, either the kids will LOVE the banquet or they will HATE it.
Oh, and I know they serve mead and (perhaps) crappy wine, but do they also serve beer? That alone could be the deciding factor.
Please help me!!!! Should we go or not?? **pounding my head on the desk**
Eh... I don't know how I didn't see this post earlier!!!
I haven't been to the banquet so can't really tell you whether your kids will like it or not. I don't know if they serve beer, it depends on whether they have a wine licence only or a full licence to sell alcohol...
As an alternative, have you thought of visiting the Bunratty Folk Park? The Folk Park also run an evening of traditional Irish entertainment, with a lighter menu than a full banquet. This might be liked better by kids?
Or do it during the day and it is like a living museum and the kids would really like this as they can interact with the people that they meet and even see the women baking... I've heard if you time it right you can taste what they are making!
