Realistic I would like to go out to napa and do their wine country half marathon with my husband the spend a leisurely week drinking wine, biking, reading, and eating in the area.
Unrealistically because we have a four year old and will need to wait a long time before leaving him for a month - husband and I would spend a whole month in a rented cottage in the south pacific floating in lagoons, drinking fruity drinks and chilling.
Attending a week-long cooking school in Italy (something like this) with a friend or two. The main candidate to go with me just had her third kid last year so it won't be for a while, but I can wait!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
I think I would have to go with Israel/Jordan. There is so much history and so much to see within a really small geographical area that If I don't see it during my life it will be a major disappointment.
Hey travel twin, when are we meeting in Petra? Cause it is totally mine too. And Antartica.

I really want to visit Southeast Asia and it's next on my travel list. My H and I are hoping to spend a month there next year. It's difficult to narrow it down to which cities and countries but Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam are all possibilities.

Lifetime must-do trip is a safari. I haven't gotten as far as researching the different country itineraries because this one is several years off.
My less distant dream trip is Argentina. I want to see Buenos Aires and then travel throughout the countryside. I studied the history and literature of Argentina a bit in college. We are tentatively discussing taking a few weeks in December 2014.
We recently visited Rapa Nui which was my dream location since I was a kid. Everything now is just icing on the cake - but maybe i can say that seeing we've book our Tanzania/Botswana trip for 2013
Other than those I keep coming back to Istanbul, not your typical dream trip but I spend way too much time day dreaming about Istanbul....
Well, we are about 90% sure we are doing a safari in Tanzania next October, so thats pretty awesome. Without the baby, bonus!!!
I would like to spend time with DH in Europe - we have each backpacked a bit, but separately, so I would like to do some places WITH him. We are going to Munich in May and I'm very excited about that (and neither of us have been to Germany). I would say I really want to visit the Greek Island with him, Croatia, Portugal and Spain.

Another safari vote. We went to Cuba in Sept which had been top of my list for a while since I wanted to get there before Castro dies, and it was awesome. Now I may have to start channeling the obsession to thinking about the different country/park options for a safari.
Since expenses aren't magically covered in this question, I will stick with relatively close places I would feel really sad to never see. Top of my list is Corsica, followed very closely by Venice.
Nyiragongo is still at the top of my list, but I'm still not convinced it's a smart thing to do safety-wise, and I don't want to put my SO through the stress of worrying about me getting shot or something. He worries enough when I'm walking around my own neighborhood at night, so I can't imagine what it would do to him if I went to the DRC!
I really want to drive a car down part of the coast of Australia. I like road trips.
Future dream trip. Renting a plane and flying out west through the grand canyon, up to the Pacific Northwest and ending up flying to Alaska. Dh just got his pilots license so that's a far away dream but hopefully we can make it happen some day.
Like others I have been dreaming about Antarctica for several years now. Not sure it is #1 though. We have been talking a lot about Thailand, Indonesia, Laos... It is tough to pick just one.
Europe - specifically a couple of months in the English countryside, Ireland, South of France, Germany, plus all the big City's (London, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, etc.).
My other one would be a few weeks in Japan. We went to Kyoto last year, but I'm super bummed we didn't have time (or the funds) to extend the trip and go to Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Hiroshima, and the countryside. Japan is such an amazing place!

Laos is amazing. Seriously.
I'm glad you said this. Everything I've read online has me intrigued by Laos. Do you have any suggestions for specific areas or cities you enjoyed most? Luang Prabang is on my list.
This might not be that popular of an opinion, but in a month you can totally do all four countries pretty easily. You wouldn't be able to see everything but I think you could do a 4-week SE Asia trip comprised of those four countries where you do get to see and experience a lot. Everything is pretty close together and if you're flying instead of taking buses you won't lose many entire days traveling.
You could do:
5 days Cambodia (3 for Siem Reap and 2 for Phnom Penh) 7 days Vietnam 7 days Thailand The rest in Laos (the infrastructure in Laos is such that the more time you can spend there the better because you really do need time to travel from place to place, although you could always just fly into and out of Luang Prabang and allocate the rest of the time elsewhere).
Thanks for the suggestions, Publius! This is very helpful. I need to start another thread about this soon after I do a little more research and ask you both for more advice. I have a lot of questions.

We only went to Luang Prabang and it was such a great city. We really loved it. We did Cambodia and Thailand on the same trip and we really liked Siem Reap but we loved Luang Prabang. I have pictures/info on my blog if you are interested, just let me know.
