We love Steamboat Springs! We usually just rent a condo via vrbo near the hill as when we go in the winter it's for skiing. Will you ski while you're out? (stay at a place where you can ski in/out). if you don't care about skiing then I would stay closer to town.
A visit to Strawberry parks hot springs is really nice - but you need a 4wheel drive vehicle to get up there and do not get stuck or try with something else or it's a steep fine to tow you out.
apres ski HH we like Slope Side Sweetwater Grill is good, there is a great mexican place with good margs right on Main Street in downtown (Lincoln Ave) but the name escapes me.
you're going for a music fest - but Ghost Ranch is a cool bar with good live local music.

I love that area, although I'm a skier, so I don't know non-ski activities. I know I enjoyed the food there, but no specific recollections of where I've eaten. We tended to go inexpensive b/c we would just drive in from Denver for a weekend.
Check out strawberry springs. It's a natural hot spring, and it's clothing optional at night. A lot of fun.

Ditto Strawberry Park hot springs. It's a great place to unwind. Clothing optional, but it's pitch black out there, so you'll barely notice it. You'll need a 4wd and/or chains to get up there. And it's a hefty fine if you don't use one of these and get stuck on the road.
I can't really remember restaurants where we ate. We chilled out one afternoon at Slopeside Grill, right at the bottom of the mountain. They had decent priced beers and decent food.
If you're skiing, it should be a good time. Best snow I've ever, ever boarded in was at Steamboat Springs. Champagne powder isn't an exaggeration. It was awesome!

Really? Maybe it's because everyone in my crowd had a subaru (AWD), but we didn't think twice about going. I don't remember the drive being challenging at all.
Honestly, our last group trip was a subaru ad. We rented a cabin that in the summer is a camp, and driving out toward dinner there was the impreza leading the way, then an outback, then my forester, all driving through pristine white snow. It was kinda hilarious.

I think the hot springs are maybe a 30 min drive from town - at the most. it all depends on conditions. we were in a truck that was sliding down b/c the road was snowpacked and iced over. but there really isn't much snow there now - nor is there much in the forecast - so roads could be just fine.
when Steamboat has snow it's usually amazing! and we love it there - we have a season pass so hoping that it dumps and soon!
