Ordering Knit Fabric Online - Question?

I'd like to order some knit fabric online (our local stores sell black/white knit, that is it). But there are SO many options.

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on the best knit to order to make leggings for my 1 year old daughter.

Do I need double knit, jersey knit, interlocking knit, high performance knit... I'm looking at Fabric.com and the choices are just overwhelming.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm new at this.

Jersey or interlock would be your best bet. Skip that slub rayon knit though. I love it. It's beautiful but it's too thin and drapey for what you're trying to do.

I use tshirts from the thrift store or Walmart to make colored leggings for LA. It is super cheap and you can get them in any color (plus, if you plan correctly, no bottom hem!)

Leggings are best with cotton that has a little spandex (lycra/whatever) in it- but, they can be made with any old knit (just don't use something crazy and scratchy or super thin). Girlcharlie has some nice cotton jerseys with spandex in them that would be great. Knees get pretty droopy without that elastic in the fabric (but, if that doesn't bother you, by all means do whatever). Polyester fabrics don't breathe well enough for areas that really need that, IMO- so I'd skip them, but, a cotton poly blend might be okay.

You can find women's t-shirts that are cotton with a touch of spandex, Target often does their basic maternity tees out of a great soft spandex blend (and you get a lot of fabric .
