We're fine. Was your hands, clean your makeup brushes more often if you're sick, and probably skip testers or just disinfect them before trying to use them. I hadn't even thought to worry about this yet, even though a couple of people were treated for it in my city. No state of emergency here yet, which is propane why I'm pretty relaxed still.

I think the spray on brushes daily would be a good practice. I have fallen off the wagon with that but am going to endeavor to get back into the habit.

All of this.
Plus, we don't have to wear masks so at least you won't have a mask messing up your makeup!
Tbh, my hands are what are suffering now. They're so dry from all the washing. I'm definitely using a lot of hand lotion these days.

I have taken to caring soap in my purse. I’ve been doing this for awhile. The soap in public bathrooms kill my hands.
I don't understand. Are you sharing your make-up with sick people? Are you letting people sneeze all over your lipstick/lip gloss? I don't travel all that much. I only do my make-up in my room. I will re apply gloss during the day in a empty bathroom.
I don't ever try on make-up in sephora or ulta. But if I did I would use a wipe sanitizer to clean if I put it near my skin. I did add keychain like liquid sanitizer to my lunch bag and use that before I eat since I have to heat up my food in the kitchen and touch stuff.
Okay, maybe a weird question, but can you talk me through the logistics of how you use these? If I just carry it in my purse, then I have to dig through my purse with dirty hands to get it so that I can wash my hands. Do you get a leaf out before you use the bathroom? If so, how do you hold it? Thanks!

Yeah, I know I'm not sharing my crease brush with patient zero, but I was just looking to have a light discussion about some reasonable precautions. My purse isn't exactly a sterile environment. I wash my hands a lot, but not every single time before reaching in there. There's no sink at the subway entrances and exits, when I need to reach in my bag to get out my card. My tubes of lipstick and lip balm and hair brush and tissues and whatnot are all in the bag when I dig my hands in there.
On the sanitizer (and please correct me if I'm wrong people because I don't want to spread misinformation), my understanding is that while it's helpful to kill bacteria that can cause the secondary infections that make a virus work, it is powerless against the virus itself. For that, you need soap and water.

Oh yeah, this. And it reminds me of a dilemma I have. At work, I need to use one of those kastle key fobs to enter the bathroom, and to get back into my office after using the bathroom. So I pick up the key on my desk, go to the bathroom, wash my hands, and then pick the key and return to my office.
Google suggests the key fob is not waterproof. So....I have no idea what to do about this problem.

The virus is surrounded by a lipid layer that dissolves with hand sanitizer that’s at least 60% alcohol. So hand sanitizer will kill the virus—but washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is still the best if available.
They sell small packages of disinfecting wipes. I think this points to the bigger issue, though: none of us are going to be able to sterilize our lives enough to not be at risk of picking anything up anywhere. That's why the advice is to not touch your face as much as possible. The CDC released information about which sanitizers to use, though I haven't read it yet.
I'm in and out of hospital ERs most days of the week and I have had to walk into extremely unsanitary conditions as part of my work, also. I carry a canister of lavender-scented hand sanitizing wipes. They help take dirt off your hands as well, so wipes are always my preference to liquid sanitizer. I don't actually worry about the fact that I touched the outside of the container, but it could be easily wiped down with the same wipe once I'm done using it on my hands. Lysol wipes that you bring to your work bathroom could help with the key issue. Maybe something similar with everything in your purse? Or get a small pouch for the lipsticks so that the outside of them are less likely to pick up germs when you reach into your purse for other things?
Honestly, for the most part we're being told to take common-sense precautions. All of these things have always been risks for germ transmission. That's why I said I'm trying to just not stress too much about it, because nothing will be perfect protection and if I get sick, I get sick, and then I just need to quarantine myself and rest to get better since I'm not immune-compromised.
For the record I wash my hands every single time and started adding additional non restroom times. I use the sanitizer in between because I have to open the fridge/microwave/water dispenser before I actually get to sit down to eat. (For example) there is only so many ways to block germs and a hand sanitizer is just one of them. 😷

I think I am less germaphobe than I thought because this really never occurred to me! But I primarily use these when traveling, when I am also carrying a specific purse I use for traveling, which has one million pockets. I pretty much always keep the case of soap leaves along with tissues, moist wipes, etc. in an outer pocket. So I am not digging through my entire purse but I guess I also am not too bothered by the digging.

Lysol wipe? I have them in my office and I now use it for so many things including cleaning keys/keycards.

I’ve always thought about this stuff. Germs are everywhere. Thankfully for many people our immune system does its job to protect us. I’ve always done small things like store my bag/purse in one area so I’m not dragging my germs around my house, wash my hands before applying make, periodically wipe my phone with alcohol swabs, etc. We should all think about these things in general. If you are immunocompromosed then you should take extra precautions.
Hand washing with soap and vigorously rubbing and not touching your face is the best protection but hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol is also helpful.
I'm sure all of you also received the email from Ulta's CEO today about new sanitizing procedures they're undertaking in their stores. I found the line about, "For guests wanting to use a tester or trial a product, please ask an associate to assist you" very interesting. I suspect this means that the testers will still be out on the floor, along with signage asking people not to help themselves. People still will, of course, but it covers some liability on Ulta's part.
Anyone visited an Ulta today to see what, if any, changes have been implemented?

I saw this email not five minutes after I walked out of a Sephora* and it made me happy to see. Sephora did not have hand sanitizing wipes at the entrance, which...really? I just went in to pick up some blow dry cream, and I have never been so aware of what little petri dishes those testers must be.
*It was on my way home from work and starting tomorrow I'm going to be WFH for a while so I wasn't wandering around town hitting all the stores just for kicks.

I got a similar email from Sephora today. Hopefully both stores implement everything they're saying they will.

I haven't, but I'd like to see them under locked plastic/glass boxes. Like, where the top is right against its surface so you can really see color/texture up close but can't touch.
I went to ulta today. I was the only one in the store. When I went near the makeup the staff was really following me making sure I didn’t touch anything. It’s not like they put out fresh samples or anything though....

i wash brushes weekly, this won't change bc of Covid. Samples, i've steered clear of bc ... just no. DD will be upset bc she LIVES for the samples at Ulta. Its her version of me playing w. my mom's Avon samples when i was her age.
