I just read a middle grade book with my son that I LOVED: The Ogress and the Orphans by Kelly Barnhill. This is perhaps overly sweet about the power of kindness and good neighbors and the danger of power-hungry leaders (was written in the early Trump years), but I love that kind of thing and loved the lessons for DS.
I just started The Lion Women of Tehran and have high hopes because I loved Marjan Kamali’s other book, The Stationery Shop.

I gave up on North Woods and am currently reading Kantika by Elizabeth Graver. I like it, but am still having trouble really getting into it. I need to read a few faster-paced books when I'm done with this one.
Our book club book is None of This is True this month and for the life of me I cannot get myself to read it. Sometimes when books are too popular, I just don't want to read them and I purposely didn't read it when it came out. Now it just sits and stares at me, I think I've read the first page 5 times and have yet to get past page 10.
I'm questioning my life choices that so many people didn't like Lady Tan! I truly enjoyed it and now am hoping I didn't recommend it to too many people.
I really liked Lady Tan too.
I also liked None of This is True, for what that’s worth.
I’m almost done with Dracula. It wasn’t on my to read list but was this month’s choice for my work book club and I’m glad I read it since I never would have otherwise. Going to watch the movie next too.
eb777888 I’m starting The Measure next! My coworker recommended it, curious to see how it plays out based on the synopsis.

I took a class in college called something like Science Fiction in Novels, and I read this, Island of Dr. Moreau, Frankenstein, (and a couple more I cannot remember) and I adored that class so much.

I read None of This is True yesterday, as book club is tonight. I know I went into it not wanting to read it, but I hated it more than I thought I would. The first 60% was just so slow. I've also read a couple other books with podcasts in them lately and am over it. Finally, I kept waiting for a twist at the end, which never really came.
Not even getting into the part they just glossed over that really frustrated me. But trying to not have spoilers.
This past week I finished Long Island by Colm Toibin (sequel to Brooklyn) which I enjoyed (4*) and Funny Story by Emily Henry (also 4* - my fave of hers so far).
Just finished The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki and enjoyed it. Just started West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. One of the zoo volunteers suggested it when we were at the San Diego Zoo as it tells the story of 2 giraffes' journey to the San Diego Zoo from NYC

I'm reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt for my book club at work. I'm not a huge Fiction reader, so it's harder for me to get through books like this. I read Forever Strong by Gabrielle Lyon earlier this month and just started 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do this past weekend.
I finished Fourth Wing after waiting close to 5 months for it. I don’t typically read fantasy and went into it with lower expectations based on some reviews. Overall, I liked it a lot. I didn’t like that the violence doesn’t always make sense and the book did not need vulgar terminology when some descriptions were spicy enough already.

Semi-reading related. Has anyone ordered from thriftbooks.com? Does it take a long time to ship? I ordered a book May 5th and it hasn't shipped yet. It was cheap, so didn't have high expectation on timing, but this seems too long. I considered ordering another, but also want to read it at some point in the next month or so.

This has been a terrible reading year so far. May is pretty much a clean up half read books month. So far I've finished
1. The Block Party - 3*'s, I had such high hopes, but it felt clunky, and then kind of rushed at the end 2. If you Would Have Told Me by John Stamos - 3.5*'s, it's good, but he goes on tangents that slow it down. TW he talks about loss of parents, and some difficult pregnancy stuff
Currently reading/finishing
1. You Love Me (4th book in the You series) 2. Thirteen Ways to Kill Lulabelle Rock
I finished Minka Kelly's memoir and it's as good as everyone said. It made me take back what I said about "actors aren't writers" after reading Rebel Wilson's. Man, she really had a rough go of it for awhile.

Re: childhood retreads, I've read Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli 3 - 4 times. I could probably read it again soon.
I'm a huge Anne of Green Gables fan, but somehow never read the book, I may do that too.
Oh and Little Women is a good one
Now remind me "It Ends with Us" by Colleen Hoover isn't that good and that I don't want to re-read it before the movie comes out. They're going to change half of it anyway.
Last night I flew through Daughter’s Drawings by Nick Botic. SO creepy and disturbing. Definitely check trigger warnings before reading. I did think the ending felt very rushed.
Otherwise right up my alley for a creepy thriller. 4 stars
Sipsworth is for you if you want your heartstrings tugged, but not in an overly schmaltzy way. An 83-year-old woman who lived a very isolated life finds a mouse, and her life opens up as a result. Yes, it SOUNDS schmaltzy. But it really is good!
The Woman on the Ledge is a great thriller that I read nonstop, including while cooking dinner with one hand, so I could see what happened sooner.
