Does anyone have one? What brand? Are you happy with it?
We just bought a Ryobi one. It has a lot of plastic pieces.
Our old Honda mower is 19 years old and still sort of functional. We have been able to repair various things over the years. Everything on it was metal.
Now I'm second guessing if we should keep the electric one or try to limp along the old Honda for another year or two.
I've had an eGo for a couple of years and I LOVE it. I can get 2 mows to a charge (unless the grass is wet). It's quiet enough that I can mow early without annoying neighbors. The push start it effortless. The amount of pressure it takes to hold the bar to keep it on is very light. It doesn't vibrate like gas. Switching from gad to electric took lawn mowing from a chore I loathed to one I only kind of dislike.
We have an eGo. We can’t do both front and back on one charge (we have a large property) but we have 2 batteries so it works out fine. We just swap after the front yard.
H got the eGO i think when our riding mower crapped out. he loves the thing. I don't cut the grass, I have no opinion. I know the battery is plenty to do our front yard. Our back is much bigger (3/4 of an acre total) and that requires several charges. But he usually breaks it up and does it in sections anyway, especially when it's hot in the summer.
EDIT: ALSO literally 4 out of 6 of us on the court have the eGo now. The two hold outs are one with a really old push mower that she's still limping along and another who pays someone else to cut the grass. Everyone with one loves it.
We've had an Ego since 2018 and love it. Minimal maintenance required thus far and the original battery is doing great; we also have an Ego snow blower/assorted other lawn tools that use the same battery with no issue.
With respect to the plastic parts, think of EV/hybrid cars and how they are so much fiberglass. The batteries need a lighter chassis to save power. So, don’t dismiss it just because it’s not metal, then it could be battery powered.
We've had a kobalt one for several years and it has been great. The only issue is that H complains about wanting an extra battery so he can finish the whole yard at once, and it wouldn't be an issue if he would just buy another one!
I love how quiet it is. I wish everyone had all electric equipment.
We have a cheap plug in Kobalt and it has worked great for the few years we’ve had it. DH often leaves it outside (to my annoyance) so it’s been rained on between uses (not with the extension cord connected). We have a medium size yard but it’s pretty flat and rectangular.
We have the eGo and it’s starting its 3rd summer. We don’t have a very big yard (back yard only) sit that one is easy. We also pack it into the SUV and take it to my parents and the boys mow their lawn for them. Much more grass area and it does it all no problem. So far the battery has held up well and stays charged
DS1 just did the first mow of the season at my parents and it was long, it got through all of it, sometimes if it’s long or wet/thick it will bog down and sound like it’s going to stall out, just need to slow down and take it a bit slower. It also has height settings and mowing it higher helps too.
I was just looking at electric mowers today, since I thought my cheapie workhorse mower died. It came back to life, but I'm still eyeing the electrics. I like the Egos, but they are a bit pricier than I can manage right now.
I used to have a plug in mower when I lived in GA (about 10 years ago), I liked it, I think it was black and decker, I found the cord a pain, I nearly chopped it off quite a number of times, we had that mower for 7-8 years without issue. I was only looking at cordless ones today, but I was worried about the power factor with thick grass. Are the battery ones powerful enough for super thick grass, or will I need a corded one again?

We have an electric weed eater and it is awesome. It is much lighter than gas weed eaters so I can use it. It has lots of different attachment heads and is fun to use. We have a 1 acre lot and sometimes it dies when I have more to do, but I often forget to charge it too… so…. I think it is a ryobi it is green. I would say for personal use, it is plenty powerful enough and just as good as the gas ones.
We have a plug in electric Ryobi going on it's third season and it's been great. It's the 13" 11 amp version - really small, but perfect for our tiny lawn.
We also have an eGo. When we moved two years ago, we sold our old gas mower because iy was going to be tough to bring with us. When we looked at new mowers at Lowe’s, the vast majority were electric. We have much less lawn to mow here, and electric works very well. It’s much quieter, which is awesome for lots of reasons, including not disturbing our neighbors. We’re going into our third mowing season and it still works great. Also, the whole mower is much lighter, allowing us to store it on en electric lift in our garage.

My one minor complaint with my eGo is that when the grass is wet, it kind of gets clogged. I tip it on the side and hose all the wet grass off and then it's back in action. The battery also drains more rapidly when the grass is very wet. My grass is quite thick in some areas and sparse in others, and I don't notice a difference based on density. It is one the more expensive end (and I bought one of the higher end options), but I absolutely think it was worth it. I snagged it during the MA tax free weekend a couple years ago, so thst saved me a little money. My yard is fairly small and I have a large patio, so one battery is plenty for me.
I just got a Ryobi on Friday. I haven't used it yet. I did a fair amount of research and got a model with two batteries. I don't know how you bought it but I noticed that the in store prices for some models were significantly lower than the online prices which was weird.
We just bought an Ego this year and love it. It cuts thick grass WAY better than our old gas mower did. (It's also nice having a self-propelled after having a push mower for 13 years). We bought it a couple months ago when they had a deal that you could get a back-up battery for free. Honestly our yard is small enough that we can easily cut the entire thing on one charge - the battery isn't even low when we are done, but also nice to have a second battery for the fall when we'll be cutting/mulching leaves and it will take more time.
We have two Ryobi, one is a push and one is a riding. The push is great. The riding is having an issue with the battery charge after about 2 years of owning.
We have a Ryobi. DH needed a second battery to be able to do both the front and back lawns, but otherwise he really likes it. He just swaps the battery when he needs to. We’ve had it for at least five years. No issues. It does a good job and is still in good shape.

Same. We’ve had an Ego for years and it’s great, H loves it. I could even use it if I wanted to LOL. We also have the weed whacker and leaf blower and share batteries. H wants the snowblower but the gas one we have isn’t that old so we’re holding off for now.

I'm guessing we got the same one as ours is also the 2 battery one.
We have greenworks lawnmower, hedge trimmer and snowblower. H says the lawnmower and hedge trimmer work great. The snowblower is so so. We bought the lawnmower and hedge trimmer spring 2021 so this will be our 4th summer using them. All three use the same size battery and we have two of them.
Well, this was an expensive thread for me to read. We’ve needed a lawnmower and I had been trying to convince my H to go electric. At least I have now finished his BD/Fathers Day shopping. lol.
We have a Ryobi and I love it. Going on its third year and no issues. I do need to buy a second battery because our yard is almost always too big to mow on one charge. We also had an old Honda that was limping along that I loved, but I don't regret switching.
FWIW, our neighbors have a eGo and I swear I sometimes don't even hear them mowing when I'm outside. It's crazy quiet.
