We decided to get DS11 a phone, he wanted an iPhone and got a free one for adding a line with Verizon, so that's fine.
H and I have Samsung android phones so.....I don't know anything about the Apple world. My SDs have iPhones but lived primarily with their mom when they got their first phones, so while we paid for the phone/plan she dealt with logistics.
I know Apple people can share locations, is there a way that we can do Find My iPhone from our android phones? If not, I can make him share location with his sisters and ask them to find him in the event that's needed, but it would be easier to do it myself.
Also, if I have the device insurance through Verizon, do I still need Apple Care?
Ok I'll check out the Life 360! I didn't realize you could do it through Google Maps, we've justt never seen the need. He's driving all over for work so it would just tell me what client he's at, and I never leave my house lol.
I guess it would be helpful because if he goes to Wing Snob without me again, I can yell at him in all caps. 🤣

Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

H and I have Pixels, the kids have iPhones. We use Life360 for sharing location. It shows you not only where they are currently, but where they have been. Which has been handy for us at times because we know where DD has parked the car for school in case we need to get it or get something out of it.
We use the free version, but you can pay to get more information such as driving reports, etc (which obviously you don't need yet). But I was just on a run with a friend, and she was telling me about a family she knows that was alerted by Life360 when their son was in an accident. They were able to respond much more quickly (he's ok - broken femur).

Do you call it wing snob, or is that a typo? Lol
We have Wingstop about 30 min from me but there's also a bunch of places called Wing Snob that are closer. It's SO GOOD.

We’re all just peer pressuring dad to cave in and join us in the iPhone world. Hello, FaceTime, quoting texts, and not getting an ‘undeliverable’ error all the time for pictures! 😉

Eh, just let him stay with what he's comfortable with and just use WhatsApp. 😋

Or maybe if Apple loses the lawsuit brought against them by the DOJ they'll have to lessen their try for a monopoly and play nice with other platforms. 🙂

I'm...kind of excited to see what happens with the lawsuit. You'll have to pry my android from my cold dead hands.
I had a hand me down iPad my mom gave me when she got a new one. I had so much rage I had when it was time for my annual Game of Thrones rewatch and I couldn't get Max because Apple quit updating the tablet to force me to buy a new one, I was soooo mad.
H got me a new tablet for Christmas. A Samsung one!

Yeah, I'm a little stubborn but anytime someone tries to sell me on an iPhone it pushes me further away from ever considering it (not that I'd want to - I love my pixel phone).

Just an FYI- the fault for the communication issues between iOS devices and Android devices lies entirely on the iOS side. Your phones are using antiquated texting protocols with non-iOS devices, which creates all sorts of issues for everyone. You can't send your photos or videos to us at full resolution, you can't receive those sent to you at full resolution, and you occasionally just crap out when you're trying to send them to us. I can tell you that it's extremely frustrating on our side, too- when I see that "SMS" tag, I know not to bother with multimedia.
The good news for all of us is that Apple's hand has been forced (thanks EU!) and they have announced that they will implement RCS (modern texting protocol) functionality this fall. How far they go remains to be seen, but it should be a good thing for all of us.
And FWIW, Google Messages can quote texts. Easily. Just not with you guys!

I have an iPhone for work and a Pixel for person use and LOVE the pixel. I use the iPhone a bit more now, since my daughter now has an iPhone and I can do parental controls on my work phone more easily. Still dont' like it.

I think H is finally in agreement to change on his next phone. He keeps getting frustrated at certain lacks, especially his lack of the find my app now that our kids are older and out and about a lot. But he also refuses to download 3rd party apps when avoidable because as a software designer he knows what junk is hidden in apps that tracks and sells data so he will never agree to downloading an app that tracks him, but since apple is tracking us anyway he’s fine with using findmy (he basically wants as few companies as possible having our info).
I will never forget a post about apple/android here years ago where someone said they would reconsider dating someone if they were an android person LOL.

Android 4 lyfe.
I have a dumb question that came up while my dad was visiting. He has some kind of Motorola phone. Are all non-Apple phones Android? Or are there other categories as well?
I kind of wish my first smartphone hasn’t been an iPhone because I have no desire to learn a new way, but I envy the camera quality on other brands.

I am not an expert at all, but I think so? My MIL had whatever the cheapest generic smartphone option was, and it was very similar to use as my Samsung.

Android is the operating system used by the VAST majority of non iPhone phones. Apple uses the iOS operating system. I think there may be a few others out there but almost all phones that aren't Apple use the Android operating system.

Yes, there are many Linux based mobile distros in action (like Android!), and of course the ill-fated Windows Mobile and BlackberryOS/10. Android and iOS have much larger market shares than anyone else, though:
