I always find it interesting too, thanks for posting.
DS dropped 5 spots to 152 (Calvin). I worried it might shoot up the charts when I named him (it’s such a great name!) but it’s basically treaded water the last 7 years.
DD has remained outside the top 1000 since the early aughts (Dar.by)
My 14yo's name rose into the top 1000 for 4 years (total) 2 years after she was named, but never made it past the high 800's. She shares a class with another 8th grade girl with the same name in a school of ~1200. Weird!
My 16yo's name has been somewhere between 20-50 for a very long time, in his large HS- he knows a sophomore and a senior with the same name (he's a junior). I do remember that there were multiple Liams and Landons in his preschool class, and they were quite a bit less popular than DS's name at the time. He was the only kid "his name" we knew for years, though!

I always find it interesting that Liam and William are in the Top 10 (I also named my daughter a nickname, so there's that, but has also never cracked the top 1000).
I'll be ok when I don't have anymore Bella/Sophia/Olivia in class anymore.

My DS (born 2009) has a name that is starting to drop quickly, but from 2000-2021, it generally ranged in the 40s-50s.
My DD (born 2011) has a name that is in the top 10 since around the year she was born. I picked her name in 2005, and then did not reassess once it rose to the top 10 around when she was born. I do kind of wish DH and I had reassessed before she was born to see if there was a name we liked that wasn't so popular.
still in the high 400s, but the same name when used for a girl is more popular--in the 100s. Oddly enough I really disklike our son's name when it is used for a girl, but obviously love it for a boy.

Ha, I feel that way about our boy name had DD been a boy (Adrian). I love it for a boy but hate it for a girl.
I picked what I thought/still think are all pretty classic names, but they are all dropping dramatically! Our dog is Mais.ie, and her name is rising fast, lol.
I have a Lau.ren and hers is dropping most rapidly, from 119 when she was born to 343. My oldest two’s names have each dropped 100 spots from the year they were born. And I have an Em.ily… that’s gone from 6 to 18. I was really worried about using that name due to the long-standing popularity, but interestingly, we’ve hardly ever run into other girls with that name her age in her school or activities.
Meanwhile, my kids have cousins named Charlotte, Amelia, and Mia!!
DD's middle name has shot up, from #77 when I was pregnant to #10 now. A little too high-profile for my tastes, so I'm glad we didn't go with that as her first name.
For my kids classmates (1st grade + pre-k), the only names on the Top 10 used are Luna, Sophia, Liam, and Henry. All the Mia/Ava/Olivia/Isabella/Evelyn/Emmas I know of are teenagers.

I just think name distribution is so less “dense” these days. When you compare the 2010 decade where the most popular girls name is used about 195,000 to the 1980s where it’s used 470,000 times to the 1940s where it’s 640,000….
That’s a big difference.
Doing this on my phone so am not going to compute actual percentages for a true comparison.
Thanks for posting - I always find this interesting. 3 of my kids have names in the top 20-30 every year, while 1 of my kids has a family name that's always ranked 400-something.
I find that the more classic names that rank highly for the country as a whole are not as popular in SoCal. We seen to have more "unique" names here in general.
scm1011 , I am shocked your daughter's name is not on the list. I love it and really considered for my DD.
Aww, thanks! We've had mixed reactions. I adore it but a lot of family members made a face upon hearing it. I've had more than a couple people ask if I made it up lol.
Huh. DS is Samuel - it's been in the top 20-30 for the last 25 years. We rarely/never run into another Sam. In his school of 500+, he's the only Sam.
DD is Tessa - it's solidly 200-300ish. I had never known a Tessa in real life, but knew of 3 or 4 Tessa's from this board. In the last year, DD has run into a bunch of Tessas in real life, all around her age. One at dance, one at school, another at art, another at camp. Ok, so only a handful, but weird to go from never hearing it in person to now having to go by Tessa Last Initial at all of her extra circular activities. Must be #regional ?
DD's name is not, and to my knowledge has never been, in top 1000. It's not particularly uncommon as a nickname but it is uncommon as a given name. (PDQ -it's *poof*)
janegold, I don't think I ever knew your DD's name - I really like it!
kdubs923, my niece is Tess, which was ~900 the year she was born and in her very small high school not far from where you are there are 2 other girls named Tess. It is funny how regionally names can be for sure.
I'm surprised about Luna as well. I've never met a person, but it is becoming hugely popular for German Shepherd Dogs! LOL I wonder if the rise in popularity as a name choice for pets causes the same drop as a name choice for children.

Our entire school system in town has 1600 kids and we have at least 2 Tessas and 2 girls who go by Tess (in fact, my Girl Scout troop of 10 kids has the 2 Tessas, both in 5th grade!!). So funny. *To note, we live pretty close to kdubs923
DD1s name (Stella) has stayed about the same since she was born going in a range from the low 30s to mid 40s. But DD2 was 747 the year she was born and is now 289 and she is only 7. Crazy swing up but I still don't know anyone else with her same name, I do know one other where they use it as a nickname but none as a given name.
C’s name (Co.lin) has slide from low 100s into the mid 300s. It’s rare that he encounters another boy with the same name. H’s name has been about the same over the course of his life (though at least one male in every generation of his Swedish family has had this name for the last 200 years or so).
I have a Nathaniel and a Matthew. Both have gone down since they were born which is fine. We rarely meet other Nathaniels (lots of Nathans though). We meet Matthews everywhere and my Matthew loves it. He gets so excited - hey we have the same name!

Lucy went from 324 in year 2000 to 40 in 2023. I know there are several on this board, but I don't know a ton of them IRL. Since my 20's I knew I'd use that name for a girl since it was my grandmother's name and no one in our family had used it.
Luna is the number one name in the country for female dogs! I know zero human Lunas in real life yet, but I suppose I just have to wait a few years to start meeting them.
I have a Natalie and Lucas, I am always surprised her name is so low and his is so high.
I will say that based on their class lists there is not as much overlap as there was when I was in school. I went to school with lots of Jennifers, Jessicas, Laurens, etc. It is rare that two kids have the same name in my kid's classes.
