Jun 20th, which is a half day (8:30 - 11 AM) after the Juneteenth holiday. They really need to adjust our calendar. Why do they even bother with the "half" day that's barely anything?
We go back around Labor Day (DD1 will be before, DD2 starts Kinder which starts after).
We're done May 23. They go back August 21. I honestly love this schedule, I love being done before Memorial Day. I also love getting a few weeks in, and then having the Labor Day break.
I just now realized that DS will actually have a birthday in school this year. He hasn't yet, because they've started after his bday (August 22) the last 2 years.
June 13th for elementary and the 14th for our high school. High school has an extra day due to a water main break. It's early this year since we only had one snow day. I believe summer school will start on 7/1.
The last week is all half days to allow teachers to pack their classrooms. DD's elementary school is closing and they are doing a grade reconfiguration with the remaining 2 elementary schools. All the teacher at DD's school will need to pack and at least half the teachers at the other 2 elementary schools as well.
Patsy Baloney, Insurance pisses me off, it feels like such a scam. Pay out premiums for years and then when you actually use it they drop you. I've been notified of non renewal because my roof is "too old" and supposedly has too much granular loss. I had back to back claims almost 10 years ago and all they did was raise my deductible, now they drop you.
My roof was estimated to have been replaced somewhere between 2010-2012, that's not even 15 years old. It doesn't leak, my inspection at purchase gave it their best rating, but because I can't give them an exact replacement date, they place the age of the roof as the same year my house was built, 1950. I clearly do not have a 75 year old shingle roof. I also don't know why they wait until after I paid the full year premium to send out their inspector, they could have told me before I closed they thought there was a roof problem!
expectantsteelerfanmrsukyankee We did couples counseling a year or two ago. We just last week started up with a new one. Second meeting is this afternoon. We are basically on the brink of divorce so we both know that the stakes are high.

plutosmoon our broker confirmed with us today that our company has been dropping a lot of their clients in our area after storm claims. Iām so mad!! And Iām mad for you, too!!!!
Thursday June 13th is the last regular school day. Then exams go until Tuesday June 25th. Which of course, of the 3 finals DS has to take, his last one is on the 25th.

We are in a similar boat; our district's planned last day is Mon. 6/24. Going back after the weekend for one (half) day is annoying. All of the local camps always start up the first FULL week of summer, so a Monday last-day means working parents have pretty much the max (4) days with no childcare options. Boo hiss.
Salt in the wound: they recently announced that we had a built in snow day that we didn't use, so we're unexpectedly off Fri. 5/24. Couldn't we just keep that day as planned and scrap Mon. 6/24?

They'll go back Th. 9/5.
That's super annoying. Wow, you are the first person I know who goes as late as we do! Even locally, most towns around us get out a week before us.
The summer camp thing is so annoying. The main camp that is run by the town starts a week after school gets out and ends the first week of August, when school doesn't go back until Sept. Figuring out the gaps is always a huge frustration and one of the reasons the summer is SO stressful. I feel like the only people I know who get excited about summer are the ones who work in the schools.
My son's last day is Wed. June 19 at 11am! Half days Mon & Tues. I agree, what is the point? It's usually earlier but they started a week late this year so maybe that's why. I'm worried because I heard something about half days the whole week before and I don't know how I can work that out.

My son's last day is Friday 5/31. There are 0 half days in my school district all year long. We'll go on vacation the first week of June, which is nice because so many people are still finishing up school! Then camp starts the second week. I got most of the weeks that I requested but can WFH as needed for the ones I didn't get. Then back to school Aug 21.

Our last day is 6/26.
And annoyingly our union voted to come back before Labor Day.
Well, the letter I had been dreading came in the mail yesterday - our homeownerās insurance is dropping us after 2 back-to-back claims due to catastrophic weather events (record-setting hail and a tornado within 1 month of each other).
Guess they stopped making money on us this year. What a racket.
Fingers crossed we can find a good rate elsewhere. My H has penciled in on his calendar, āCall insurance company and yell,ā after we find a new one š whatever makes you feel better, boo.
Just a reminder to always pay for insurance but never use it if you want to stay covered. Such a scam!
We recently needed homeowners insurance for the first time and discovered that several insurance companies have completely pulled out of our state and some that are still here are not writing new policies.
Itās wild.
Iām sure itās due to claims from wildfires and coastal erosion that keep getting worse. And yet they keep building in wildfire risk areas š¤¦š»āāļø
Where we live we are not at risk for either of those.

noodleoo I think I'm in the same state, at least same area as you. Even as a non-parent I don't get the school/camp/whatever schedules. ::Back in my day!:: we went to school at least a few days before Labor day, then had a 4 day weekend (Fri - Mon), then went back. Parents been so shocked about this the last few years, and I'm like it couldn't have only been my district right? We never had snow days, we never had half days, and we went until at least June 21st because it was officially summer. Anyway, now the half days never make sense, the random whole days and so on, and then school still run until late June, why not wait until after Labor Day and call it a day? Also please combine the stupid half days in to one whole day because people have to take pretty much a whole day off every time...but what do I know?
My colleagues always had issues with summer schedules too because most of August was black out no vacation dates (higher ed last min rush), but also no camps, or even more expensive, limited camps just because they can charge the money. It really just makes no sense.
One of my BIL's was actually going to take FIL to a follow up apt today but debated trying to find coverage as he helps with our great nephew who had a half day today which would only be about 3 hours of school. After all that BIL just pulled the child for the day and took him to the apt, where they don't want kids if possible. *le sigh*

I should leave all the school stuff for another thread, but I was just thinking how I'm glad to be out of higher ed because the faculty would always vote not to start until at least 9/1, which pushed December graduation to the very weekend/time of Christmas, but they (faculty) didn't have to attend. EOY/May finals and next graduation would also run longer, like graduating this week and next. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas itself, taking finals in the last 2 weeks of the year was an unnecessary stress that could have been avoided. Plus you'd also get pressure in Admissions to enroll folks the first week of classes because they missed all of the other colleges deadlines. Sadly most of the time the students weren't ready, so you'd do all of that work just to have them (understandably) drop. Anyway, one of my old bosses fought really hard to start before Labor Day like most colleges, but no dice.
May 31. May 29, 30, 31 are finals day so basically a half day. Every Friday in May has been a 2 hour early out since they didnāt use their fog delay time.
Patsy Baloney, I feel like it should be illegal to do that. I am FUMING for you. What company is it? Did you already say?
Our last day is a half day on June 12th. We then have a week and a half before our summer camps start, which I am in total denial about. We will wing it for those 7 work days and hope that between grandparents and our flexible jobs that we can cover him without having to pay a sitter.

I stayed up way too late last night watching YouTube tutorials on French braiding and I am still a complete disaster. I just have no skills. Iām tempted to call my regular salon and see what it would cost to come for a wash, blow out, and braid. This has to be a thing, right?

I wore my new dress yesterday and no fucks were given about my unwaxed legs!
Itās so funny to me how one random off the cuff remark can stick with you FOREVER. I was dating a guy years ago and on like the fifth date, I told him I had a salon appointment the following day but didnāt elaborate. He asked what it was for and I told him it was to get my legs waxed. Without missing a beat, dude said āAre you going to get your arms done too?ā. Well I am now, sir!
We talked about the donuts last night. It did not go well. He says I am too critical. He thinks I don't believe he cares about me so I am looking for proof that he really does care or not and I will never be satisfied and he is tired of trying. The conversation made me question myself, as it always does - am I really being too critical? But my therapist was the one who encouraged me to bring it up. I took a lot of care to be respectful and follow all the advice in the marriage books for how to have these kind of conversations. I didn't yell, I didn't blame. I am trying so hard here. I don't think he can handle any hint that he might've done something wrong. His brain can't accept that so he just turns defensive. And this is why I don't bring stuff up. The cycle continues.
This morning he texted me thanking me for my patience and kindness last night. Ha. I don't even know what to do with that.
I donāt want to be dramatic but his participation in the conversation sounds like a trauma response. Did he have a healthy relationship with his parents growing up? Maybe not? Is something emotional for him on repeat and being plastered onto you? Not as a pass, but something to identify for insight for you. As for what do do about the āthank youā text - Iād go with high praise. It sounds like you were highly patient and kind. Thanking you is well deserved and exactly the right direction he needs to move.

shauni27 itās Rockford mutual and according to our broker, theyāve been dropping A LOT of people in our area.
Also? Folks in my life need a little lesson in empathy. Everyone Iāve chatted/vented with in-person has been like, āOh, I bet youāre uninsurable and life will be horrible for you and maybe also your dog will be run overā
Thanks, but could we practice, āThatās so tough! Iām so sorry!ā and move on?
