1. Yes 2. 12/11, the last day of classes 3. Tuesday 4. 5-8 pm 5. I don't think families are invited 6. It's at the dean's house 7. Probably a step up from business casual. I'll be wearing the same thing I wear to work that day. 8. I have a 35 mile commute. If I after-partied, I'd be sleeping on my coworker's couch on a Tuesday night. LOL 9. Some of my friends have already had office holiday parties. On December 1st!
Ours is this Saturday--but they have to fly many of us across the country for it, so I can see why they do it pretty early in the season. It will be an evening cocktail party with spouses (not kids) invited.
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do)
Yes.
2. How late in the holiday season is it?
3. What day of the week is it?
4. What time does it start? What time will it end?
It's next Thursday from 12 - 4 in a fancy "conference" room in our building.
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited?
No.
6. What kind of place is it at?
See answer for 2 -4
7. What is the dress code?
Whatever we wore to work
8. Will there be an afterparty?
Ha ha ha ha. The party actually lasts only until about 2 then we all go back to our desks to work.....
9. Anything else of interest to share?
I hate it and actively try to find ways to avoid it. Our CIO talks for about 10 mins and it's an idiotic speech that is supposed to motivate us but comes across as pandering us. Then he goes to each of his DR's and says "do you have anything to add?" and we stand around for about a 1/2 hour listening to these people blather on w/ no real point or direction. All while watching the food get cold.
Next week, I have a job interview from 10 - 1, so I actually really may miss most of it. YAY me.
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do) The head of my department hosts a holiday party at his home. The office does a holiday luncheon, sometimes on premise, sometimes off premise.
2. How late in the holiday season is it? The department party is usually one of the Saturdays in December, this year it was this past weekend. The office luncheon is on Monday the 17th.
3. What day of the week is it? See above.
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? The department party starts at 6pm and the ending time can vary. H and I left around 10pm, but apparently other people ended up staying until 1am. The luncheon is one hour over lunch.
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? Spouse is invited to the department party, not the lunch during the day. No children.
6. What kind of place is it at? My boss' huge home for the department party. Sometimes our big conference room for the office lunch, sometimes an off-site location like the arboretum in a meeting space.
7. What is the dress code? We did ugly Christmas sweater this year for the department party, but otherwise casual. The lunch is work attire.
8. Will there be an afterparty? Nope.
9. Anything else of interest to share? Our department party is a huge potluck where everyone brings something and there's lots of provided booze. The lunch is usually super cheesy and involves things like singing competitions.
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do) Just my office
2. How late in the holiday season is it? December 19
3. What day of the week is it? Wednesday
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? It starts at 6 and I would imagine it will end at 10
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? Employees only.
6. What kind of place is it at? A somewhat trendyish restaurant near our office. I'm scared that it is going to be a seated dinner rather than a cocktail party. I have anxiety about getting stuck at a boring table.
7. What is the dress code? "Festive attire encouraged" which in the past has meant wear the same thing you wear every day.
8. Will there be an afterparty? Yes. That is always the best part.
9. Anything else of interest to share? I just got an email inviting me to an alumni event for my old firm on that same night. Now I'm really torn about how to split my time :-( (Particularly because they aren't all that near each other, and a dinner might be hard to slip away from)
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? yes, it's for the entire organization (I work for a nonprofit)
2. How late in the holiday season is it? mid-December; on the 15th this year
3. What day of the week is it? Saturday
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? 6-9 pm
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? spouses/SOs are welcome, but not kids
6. What kind of place is it at? it's always at a very interesting venue like a museum, gallery, or other historic place (mansion, history center, zoo/aquarium)
7. What is the dress code? business casual with holiday flair
8. Will there be an afterparty? no
9. Anything else of interest to share? it's always open bar - nice!
4. 7pm, ends at 10 I think. I usually leave around 8:30/9 5. Yes & yes.
6. It's in our department floor.
7. It's a themed costume party usually, the students dress up, the staff/faculty usually does not. The faculty meeting is directly before it, so I'm usually more dressed up than usual.
8. The students always go out after. But I have a rule about going with students to a 2nd location, which is, don't do it.
9. The students host it, think up the theme and the 3rd years usually put on a performance that involves making fun of the faculty. Always fun.
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do) mine always does, DH is trying to put together a nice dinner for his team-he is a regional manager
2. How late in the holiday season is it? always early like 1st weekend of Dec
3. What day of the week is it? always on a friday
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? 6pm-12am
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? you can bring one guest, no children
6. What kind of place is it at? usually at a hotel, this year it's at a baseball stadium
7. What is the dress code? cocktail
8. Will there be an afterparty? I doubt it
9. Anything else of interest to share? It's not unlimited booze, we get three drink tickets and then you can buy drinks after that. They give away tons of prizes lie iPads, gc's. Always have a band or dj and tons of food.
No party for grad school, but my boyfriend's firm's party is this weekend.
They have a cocktail hour, seated dinner at a popular steakhouse, then an after party at a trendy club. Cocktails start at 7pm - I'm not sure when it will end. SOs are invited and are apparently given nice gifts at the event!
Dress code was kind of unclear to me for women but men need jackets.
Don't make fun of me for answering for my boyfriend.
1. We have an organization holiday party and a division holiday luncheon
2. The Org party is 12/13 and Division one is 12/19
3. Thursday and Wednesday
4. Org party is 11:30-3:30 with mandatory fun required to go until 3:30. Division is just during our lunch period.
5. Spouses are invited, they rarely come to the organizational party b/c it's during the day!
6. Hotel in the area for org party. Restaurant for division lunch.
7. Work clothes
8. LOL no
9. I would for the government. An after hours party would never work. As it is, this year's party will have hardly any attendance b/c they want $35pp for it (and no alcohol). It's also a PITA b/c our Director makes us stay until 3:30 and then we "may" get released early. Needless to say I will not be going.
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do): Yes, my company has a party and my department VP is also hosting one at her home for our department and some other select people. DH's company also has a party.
2. How late in the holiday season is it? Company party is the 13, DH's company party is the 14, and my department party is the 15 (three days in a row? Yeesh.)
3. What day of the week is it? Company party is on a Thursday, the other two are Friday and Saturday
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? Company party is during the workday, from 3-5pm. The timing has changed a bit over the years but it is always hosted at our conference center during the work day. The other two work parties in our lives are in the evening, not sure what time.
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? Company party - no, though this is the first year that is the case, in the past they were. Both DH's work party and my department party include spouses, no kids to my knowledge
6. What kind of place is it at? My company party is in our conference center here on campus. DH's party is at the Marriott, and my department party is at the VP's house.
7. What is the dress code? I'm currently stressing over this. At my company party, we wear regular work clothes. I am completely unsure about the other two. I don't think either is formal but I am guessing it should be more formal than jeans or regular work clothes (things like slacks and cardigans are typical work clothing for me)
8. Will there be an afterparty? Doubtful, though maybe for DH's party? My coworkers aren't really party types. Most are considerably older than me and nearly all have kids.
9. Anything else of interest to share? This is a weird year, in the past my old department didn't have a separate party and this is the first year DH worked at this company, so normally there are not 3 parties! I think it's going to be a fun but rough week.
