1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do) It's for our whole USD.
2. How late in the holiday season is it? It's the last day of school before winter break.
3. What day of the week is it? Friday this year.
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? We send kid's home at 11:30, so it starts around 12:00.

6. What kind of place is it at? The school cafeteria.
7. What is the dress code? We usually wear jeans.
8. Will there be an afterparty? There will be this year.
9. Anything else of interest to share? The school buys ribeyes and the admin cooks them. The superintendent flies in crab legs (ick) and we are expected to be exceptionally greatful for such a large gesture. The rest of the meal is potluck. It sucks, we are really required to be there and all we really want to do is go home and start break.
1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do) Yes, the office has one.
2. How late in the holiday season is it? next week
3. What day of the week is it? Thursday
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? noon-4
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? It wasn't mentioned on the invite, so I suppose not. MH wouldn't be able to come anyway.
6. What kind of place is it at? banquet hall. From my days on the Knot I remember it being one of the more moderately priced, low-key places in the area.
7. What is the dress code? Nothing specific mentioned on the invite. Attire in the office ranges from jeans to khakis to slacks/basic dresses.
8. Will there be an afterparty? I doubt it.
9. Anything else of interest to share? No idea what to expect since this is my first year with the company. HR has been collecting submissions for games/ice breakers. One of my last companies did a Yankee Swap gift exchange, and when I worked for a newspaper they gave away swag from outside companies that we'd received over the year (since individual reporters can't accept gifts). Stuff like wine and chocolates, hats/bags with corporate logos, etc. I actually wound up with a model train set.

1. Does your office/department have a holiday party? (feel free to answer for both if they both do) The entire organization has a "Winter Warm-Up" morning. They provide hot chocolate and some pastries and each department puts out snacks and treats. I call it Sugar Day. It is on a Thursday this year (usually on a Friday morning) and just goes through the morning.
My specific department goes out to lunch each year. The director foots the bill. That is considered our "party."
2. How late in the holiday season is it? The lunch takes place on the 14th
3. What day of the week is it? Friday
4. What time does it start? What time will it end? 1-3:30
5. Is your spouse/significant other invited? Are children invited? No, just staff.
6. What kind of place is it at? Informal restaurant
7. What is the dress code? No dress code. Whatever we wore to work that day.
8. Will there be an afterparty? no
9. Anything else of interest to share? In the past, we have done a secret santa gift exchange but this year, we are submitting recipes for a cookbook. Easy and stress-free. Times are tough so it is nice to not have to work about buying a gift for someone.

I miss the epic Christmas parties at my first firm. They'd start around 2 on a Thursday, at a reception hall, end around 5-6, and then we'd have an after party at a bar, when significant others would join us.
Then we'd come in hung over on Friday around 11. epic.
Nope.... doesn't look good for pharma companies to have parties on the company dime. We have gotten together in years past and all paid on our own... but are not this year.

8. Will there be an afterparty? Maybe for our department gathering. Kind of hard to afterparty apres Home Alone.

I would like to hear where the NY parties are because I'm nosy and always like to hear what restaurants and such people go to, but I guess since we've all shared dates there's too much stalking/revealing employer potential there...
Genet, are your events often at clubs? If so, are other people there for it? Our holiday party last year was at Beauty & Essex, and while we were in our own area there were a lot of clubgoers there and there was a lot of dancing. It was kind of funny with the stiff, business-attired lawyers (including partners). The only other time I've had a work event at a club was at Kiss & Fly and it was a summers and junior associates only thing and we had the whole place to ourselves THANK GOD.

Restaurant down next to the ice at Rockefeller Center

My husband's party this year is at the Plaza. His last three have been at Cipriani Wall Street, the NY Public Library, and the Museum of Natural History.
Yes, we have a holiday party. The past three years, it's been dinner at a restaurant for employees and spouses on a weeknight about 5-10 days before Christmas. No kids. No after party.
They have chosen good, nice-ish restaurants - type of place I'd go out to with my husband for date night. -- last year it was here: aq-sf.com/. Previous year it was an oyster bar. Dress is whatever you'd wear to that restaurant, usually nice jeans and a shirt.
This year for scheduling reasons, it's going to be in January. Place TBD.

There are door prize gift cards that they trade in their company credit card rewards for all year.
Another fed. Our party is at Dave and Busters and costs money to attend. But if you pay, you get to leave right from the party (around 2) so totally worth it in my book!
BF is a fed in another agency. They have cookies in the conference room as their party. Ha.
