...to a daytime holiday party (open house). I'm a jeans/sweater/shirt kind of girl. I'd jazz up my outfit with some cute shoes.
...to a cookie exchange party (evening/night). Same as above.
...to try on wedding dresses (I'm talking undergarments here) - I wore boyshorts underwear and a strapless bra when I went and that seemed to work fine with minimal embarrassment. I went to one place where you had to get undressed in front of everyone - sales people and other women trying on dresses. It was weird. The rest had fitting rooms that either sales people/friends helped me get into them.
To your parties: Your fancy jeans and a cute top. Boots for day. Heels for night.
To try on a wedding dress: Wear a good bra and no thong because people will be helping you change. Make sure you have a strapless with you and shoes that are about the height you think you will wear.
Thanks y'all. I'll have to sub in flats for the boots/heels. I'm going to the mall after work to grab a strapless bra, so I figured I'd get a cute outfit while I'm there.
What kind of dresses are you looking for? Do you have any ideas? I'm so excited for you!
I still haven't got a clue. I know what I don't want, LOL. No ballgowns, no pickups, no heavy beading, no long train. I don't like the dresses that look like feather dusters - with the big pouf at the feet. No tiers or feathery looking things on the skirt.
...to a daytime holiday party (open house). A knee-length dress, cardigan, and comfortable (non-dowdy) heels
...to a cookie exchange party (evening/night). Jeans, a cute top (some type of embellishment), heels or boots.
...to try on wedding dresses (I'm talking undergarments here). Your usual underwear if you want to be comfortable, a thong if you're looking at more form-fitting styles. I guess also a strapless bra/longline bra if you have one. Oh, and if you have a general idea what shoes you'll be wearing, bring those to wear when you try on dresses.
Also, my wedding dress was from Casablanca Bridal. I still think they have beautiful gowns, you could look through some of their stuff and see if any general styles stand out to you. www.casablancabridal.com/

One of the salons here carries Casablanca. I've noticed that there are a couple of designers that I'm drawn to, though most of them are outside my price range. It's given me a starting point though. Right now I just don't know what will look good on me - do I need to stick to an A-line or will a fit-and-flare work on me now? I like lace, but I'm not sure I want lace. I just need to see these dresses in person, and on me.
I did end up getting a cute outfit at the mall last night, though I couldn't find a strapless bra that provided any kind of support. I'll just wear my old ratty one.
Would it be weird if I wore Spanx to the appointment? I'm going to assume I'd wear it on the wedding day. It should provide a nice accompaniment to my uber-stylish compression hose.
No, it wouldn't be weird. Also make sure to carry a piece of paper and pen with you. If you find a dress that you like that is too pricey, you may be able to find it online at a preowned wedding dress site. I found a few Casablanca's that way after the fact and they were in my size. Some people are also willing to negotiate the price on those websites and a lot of dresses have never been worn.
If you'll be wearing spanx on your wedding day, then yes to wearing them for trying on dresses.
Also, keep a little bit of am open mind. I thought I knew exactly which dress I wanted and was underwhelmed when I tried it on. But I really had no criteria for a dress other than not staples and no long train (and not too heavy, which I learned after the first dress I tried on). I ended up in a strapless dress after all.
...to a daytime holiday party (open house). A dress with flats/boots or dark jeans nice sweater and the same shoes.
...to a cookie exchange party (evening/night). A dress with more sparkly jewelry but still casual.
...to try on wedding dresses (I'm talking undergarments here). Boy short underwear or small work out shorts, strapless bra. Those sales ladies get up in your business.
Have fun going to look at wedding dresses. I just helped my FSIL with her hunt. I'll tell you what I told her, and heard from my Mom. Go with an open mind and try on EVERYTHING. You never know what you will like. My FSIL had a list of what she wanted, she bought her dress last Sunday it wasn't anything like she said. Enjoy the experience. Also I second writing the name or info down. I helped two of my friends buy their dresses through Pearl's place via phone for 1/2 of what the store wanted.
