It's that time of year when I am in the mood to consolidate policies/shop around. We have our auto insurance with Amica and since I love them for that, I asked for quotes for the policies below.
Do you think these are fair? Any thoughts? Should I ask another company?
All numbers are annual premiums: renter's (where we currently live): $375 (deductible is $250, personal property is $40K, personal liability is $300K) jewelry: $474 ($50K) auto: $1,948 for 2 cars ($500 deductible each car, $250K/$500K coverage) policy for unit we own in NY: $190 (this is to insure unit walls, appliances, not items that our renter owns) $1 million umbrella: $178
You know me so well :-P I am being lazy for now and hope someone will chime in with "well I only pay $x for the same thing." Plus, I need names of other companies. State Farm sucks donkey balls to me, but I guess I should call them.
Aren't there too many variables to compare premiums? For renter's, for example, things like safety of your building and neighborhood, alarms, distance to fire department, etc. are going to factor in. So even with identical coverages, you'd likely be comparing apples and oranges.
A note though for comparison's sake: for very similar renter's coverage to yours (but with a $500 deductible), we pay $220 a year. That's with State Farm (who we've been very happy with -- and we've had a few claims lately).
We have Allstate and our yearly premium for 2 newer cars is about $1000 for similar coverage. We get a bunch of discounts because of bundled insurance, but it might be worth a call.
Yes, renter's insurance varies depending on where you live and type of building, etc. We live in the middle of Atlanta, in a large apartment complex. It's not a high rise though but parking is gated and so is the complex.
I will check out State Farm here (I can't stand the agent we have in NY) plus Traveler's and All State.
aspentosh, thank you re the car insurance comparison. My car is 2007 and DH's is 2004 so I will see if I can shop around some more. Unfortunately, I was in a car accident on Halloween so I doubt I will see cheaper quotes for car insurance.
