What do you get them? My parents are so hard to shop for, usually I sent a food basket or a plant. This year I got them a canvas of our entire family from the wedding, but would like to get them something else. I'm just looking for some generic ideas. My dad is diabetic and can't eat sweets and doesn't enjoy booze/wine either. (These are the two things my mother LOVES)
Maybe a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant or something? They do enjoy Christmas plants/arrangements too.
I'm in a similar boat. They're hard to shop for and have very different tastes/interests from each other. The past few years I've given framed photos, fancy cheeses, and donations in their name to a local food bank serving their area.
Dad's getting booze and a dvd of Caddyshack this year. You can get dvds of some movies off amazon for like $5. Mom is getting some crocs and a foodie board game.
I think it will be nice on the patio and will allow them to use it in cooler weather, especially when they have guests. If they hate it, I guess it will turn into a GC for amazon, which isn't so bad either.
I'm not sure yet about my parents. They met Dh and I in Italy while we were there so I made a calendar for them to hang in the pantry. They always have one and I thought they'd like it. I was also going to frame a few photos from our trip for them. As for anything else I have no clue. In the past I've bought them tickets to things to go do. A concert, an exhibit, the aquarium, that make them get out of the house. They seem to really like that.
Luckily this year in my In Law's secret Santa pull I got my BIL. He's easy to shop for.

ILs is getting a TV.
My dad is getting a gift card, candy, an acorn ornament (I get him one every year), and I crocheted him a blanket.
My mom is getting a giant lunch bag, a hummerbird decoration for her garden, a book on raising chickens with recipes, and random penquin shit (including an ornament from the kid).
I'm getting my mom jewelry. Thinking about getting her moss aquamarine earrings and necklace, since it's a pretty stone and her birthstone is aquamarine. I can't afford the regular kind! I usually buy her jewelry and since it was all stolen I get to help her re-build her collection.
For my dad, I usually get him a dress shirt and/or sweater. I may get something he could use to write down family history instead this year.
