That's what it looks like in my dreams! I know it sounds crazy, but I would love to work there and fill orders.
I actually knew a bunch of people who did that in college (when Amazon was a much smaller operation than it is now!). It was really weird apparently -- first of all, there was a bus that came to campus to pick up student employees and you could work a shift whenever you wanted. Just line up at the bus stop when you want to work!
And apparently they had cubicle things where they did their packing and when you had worked long enough that you were eligible for a break, a light would come on in the cubicle.
That was 1999-2000 or so so I'm sure it is different now, but it was kind of intriguing to me.
Now supposedly the rumor is that amazon is installing some better climate control in their warehouses after people were passing out when temperatures reached well over 100* inside in the summer.
The work is backbreaking and tiring, and you are constantly pressed to be faster.
Reminds me of Warehouse 13. I have a cousin who works at a warehouse at Hagerstown PA (the one that got bad publicity this summer for being overheated with pregnant employees). It's hard work, but he's content with how he's being treated. We always joke when I get a package from that location that he did a nice job with the box.
