This is @, but I don't want to have to wander over to MMM to check the answers Sorry!!!
1. WTF is tummy time?
2. Can you explain Elf on the Shelf to me and, in particular, why people are posting pictures on Facebook of their elves, for example, on race tracks or hanging from the ceiling fan?
Tummy time. The act of placing baby on its tummy which forces them to lift their head and promote neck strength. Also helps prevents flat spots on the skull since it is still soft
Elf on the shelf is literally that. It should move every night as it reports to Santa if you are naughty or nice
1. just an exercise to help them develop - it became more important since kids don't sleep on their stomachs as young babies 2. I don't get it - why have a naughty elf condition your kids to behave?
Ditto PP. The reason people didn't have to do TT back in the day is because our parents were told to put us down on our bellies at night to prevent babies from possibly choking on spit up. But now it's the opposite. You're told to put baby down on their back to prevent suffocation.
Yep, tummy time (supervising baby on belly) is important for developing neck and upper back muscles, as the child must learn to support her head and turn it towards/away from stimuli. Developing these muscles is believed to reduce the risk of SIDS bc the baby can move her head away from something (pillow, heavy blanket) that is blocking her breathing.
I don't understand EOAS
ETA: I'm not a breeder but I've cared for infants and I'm bored, so I answered.
But doesn't Santa see you when you're sleeping/know if you've been bad or good/blah blah blah? Or is that not the case anymore? If anything, I'd think that if Santa needs an elf in the house as a reporting mechanism, that means that if I'm out of the elf's sight I can do whatever I want, no?
Is this something that you HAVE to do so your kid doesn't get made to feel bad at school when all the kids are like "I have an elf in MY house -- Santa must not be coming to your house if you don't have an elf"?
It's getting to be something that everyone has, my hope is that we'll never have one - though my mom and MIL have offered to buy us one. I go with the "santa is magic, he sees all" line
Our EOTS does not report on naughty/nice behavior--he just does silly stuff and spreads Christmas cheer. Which may have involved the elf showing up with a picture of angry power line lady that said "looks like someone needs to get into the Christmas spirit!" after last week's MM moments thread. (I decided putting the picture in my kid's lunch box as I initially contemplated would result in his teachers thinking I was nuts.) DS1 thought is was hysterical. I never meant to get into the EOTS thing, but I will fully admit that we all get a huge kick out of it at our house. This morning the elf was caught having a toga party with a group of Transformers. I am pretty sure this is not how we are supposed to be using our elf. I hope I am not ruining my children...

I don't get EOTS, as in, I think its dumb. Every day I have 2 people who post pics about where the elf is. I don't care. Hanging it from your light fixtures isn't clever.
Why are people are posting elf pictures on FB? I am (obviously) all for doing whatever with your elf to entertain your own kid and yourself, but I don't get assuming that your 400 FB friends will be equally amused. I am happy to say that I have yet to encounter a FB elf picture--and I have certainly not posted any myself.

There will definitely be a bunch of unsubscribe from newsfeed as a result of this stuff.
I will say though, most people who post often on FB are not very good at gauging what their 400 closest acquaintances will be amused by
