I have had a Mirena since Sept 2011 (no kids). I had spotting the first 6 weeks, a very light period in Nov 2011, then nothing since (which has been awesome and my doctor said happens to many women on Mirena). I am planning on getting the Mirena taken out early next spring to start TTC. My question is, since I haven't had a period for so long, is there anything I should do once I get my Mirena taken out? Because I haven't had a period in so long, I have no idea if my cycles will be weird once going off BC, and I don't know if I will need to start temping or charting or whatever. I am fairly unintelligent when it comes to knowing things about TTC, so I don't know if there is something specific I should do once I get my Mirena out, or if I just go about having sex with H and waiting for my period each month.
I understand this question may be dumb, but please go easy on me - it has taken me almost 5 years to come to the decision to have a child, and I just don't really know much about getting pregnant or being pregnant, so I apologize if this question is ridiculous. If anyone has resources (a book or website) that can guide me to things I should know while TTC I would so appreciate that.
I've had 2 Mirena IUDs. I think it is an AWESOME form of birth control. Both times, after I had it removed I was able to conceive on the 2nd cycle. The first time, my cycle went back to 28 days immediately. This time, my first cycle was 45 days and my second was 34.
I would recommend getting yours removed 2-3 months before you want to start TTC just so you can let your body regulate and start to understand your cycles.
Good luck, and feel free to PM if you have any questions.
I think people all have a learning curve coming off of any form of bc. My periods went back to normal quickly off of bcp, but I had some weird-ass mood swings initially (aaaaand there may be more to come!) and I'm learning what MY normal is. I was on the pill for 10 years.
You are now forcing your body to produce hormones that were produced for it and so things are potentially going to be wonky. Add to that the stress of ttc and you may find yourself noticing all kinds of crazy! But then, you may not. It all depends. GL!
