Is it just a normal GC worth $450 or what? Or are you paying for some special discounts/priveleges? You have to 'earn' it? I don't get it.
If it's just a regular GC, I can see how someone who goes a few times a week would spend that over the course of a few months.
It's a little bit more than a regular giftcard. The price is $450 and the card comes with a $400 and it is already at the Gold rewards level. Someone who would use this is probably already at the Gold level though. So you're basically paying $50 for the limited edition card.
Not a bad deal for a daily Starbucks addict, but for me I can't justify it. Darn!
Oh man!! I seriously hope Dh diesnt see this! He's one of those daily starbucks addicts ( sometimes multiple times a day!) and he actually collects empty gift cards when new ones come out ( he just takes from the display by the register without adding Anythjng to them- he has them in a binder, like baseball cards or something!) he'll want to add this to his collection, I'm sure @@

DH spends at least $6 on Starbucks daily. Sometimes more. What is all this gold status talk about? Is he missing out on some kind of reward program??
Apparently, yes!
Have him buy a gift card and register it on their website. It doesn't cost any more to buy (or reload) gift cards than it does to pay cash/credit card at the register, and you get rewards. Namely, a free drink after every 12 that you buy.

now that's funny.
Haha it is! I used to majorly @@ at him for it, but it's actually kind of cool. He has "specialty ones from different states we've been to, one from Korea when we went to adopt our son... So it's kinda cool to look through them. And apparently you can actually sell the empty cards on eBay!! So he's not the only one!! Weird!

Yes, you get a free drink/food every 10th purchase with the gold card.
If you have a Starbucks gc, register it and you get credit for each purchase. Then after X number of purchases you are gold status and they'll send you a gold card to reload.
Once you're gold, you get a free item food or drink for every 12 purchases.
There's also an app where you can keep track of your rewards and pay with your card also.
Confession: I'm seriously considering buying this. I collect Starbucks cards (started when I worked there in '04-'05), and have some really rare ones, including all the shareholder cards and a couple partner-only ones. (And for the record, my collection is stored in one single binder with baseball card sleeves, so it doesn't take up really any space at all.) This would be perfect to add to my collection. My plan is to buy the card using my Discover card (so I'll get 5% cash back anyway), then transfer the balance off to several different cards to give as gifts and resell on eBay. Probably keep some of the balance for myself, but not a lot--like $50. I have an alert set to get on Gilt tomorrow morning to score one.

Ha! Your H and I are kindred spirits.
haha i thought the same thing when i read your post!! LOL it actually is pretty cool to see some of the old ones, or limited edition ones. We have a friend who is a store manager, so shes gotten him a couple of the partner only ones, too. and like you said- they fit in a single binder on the shelf, so its not like hes got a "Starbucks Card" room in our house or anything:-)

Yep, my H works in corporate and has been with the company since the early '00s, so I've had access to some cool cards.

It's cool, but even if I wanted to spend $400 to pre-pay for Starbucks for a couple years, I have no desire to keep track of the card. I love paying with my phone. I have one thing to keep track of, and I re-load it through Paypal (we usually have a balance with paypal between things DH sells on Craigslist or eBay and money I make through Teachers Pay Teachers).
