I think I tried to puke the next day but couldn't. It was terrible.
Oh and kadams, I recently LOST a shoe (but not the one I was wearing, one of my backup flats, so that makes it better).
I've lost three shoes (a pair, and one of a pair) to switching to flats after drinking. Shoes that I definitely didn't want to lose
I was once drunk on a cruise ship and spent the whole night asking people why the boat felt like it was rocking so much, only to be told that I was just drunk. The next morning I woke up to find that a 3" heel had broken off one of my shoes, and I had walked around with one heel all night assuming the resulting uneven feeling was the boat's fault. Oops.
The shoe discussion makes me think of last New Year's Eve. I twisted my ankle trying to walk to the bar in the heels I am holding in this picture. My friends graciously walked around the corner to get me some flats at the thrift store so that I could drink with them.
Oh, drunk stories. My best had to be told to me the next morning because it was the only time I've blacked out.
It was my birthday weekend and we were at my cabin in rural Wisconsin. After dinner we decided to go across the lake to the townie bar. One of our boats wouldn't start, so H towed it with the other boat. Girls were all in the boat being towed, finishing off a bottle of cake vodka (omg gross, btw). After several hours at the bar we went home and apparently my bff and I decided to skinny dip...in 2ft of water. Followed by my other best friend trying to get me dressed. Apparently I had a fight with her because I didn't like the underwear she picked out for me.
For those who judge about alcohol is it just cocktails? Or do you judge shots also? What about AMFs, Long Island or Lime Rickeys?
I don't know what an AMF is, have not had a Long Island Iced Tea since law school but those are cocktails?, and do you mean a non-alcoholic lime rickey?
Long Island Iced Teas go in the same category as things like amaretto sours, and mind erasers and Malibu Baybreezes to me. That category is "drinks that remind me of college but that I haven't seen anyone drink since I finished school."

AMF is an Adios Mother Fucker, basically a Long Island with Blue Curacao. Now they have alcoholic lime-rickeys; you use grape vodka usually.
Interesting. Funny what reminds people of college but in my circle it's just another day of drinking with the crew.
ETA - I don't have any friends from college specifically. My circle age ranges from 21-50 and I think only 2-3 of us have degrees and/or went to college.

Well, I mean, you're what, 6 months out of college? So I can understand why you still do what you did in college. When you're old like me, you will have probably moved on to different drinks. Particularly if, like me, your hangovers get more and more vicious with age (which makes super sweet drinks and/or those made with cheap liquor a LOT less appetizing).
I hate the term mommy wars. I think it's ridiculous that intelligent women with children (or without) can't have conversations about a topic without it being deemed some kind of trivial playground warfare.
I get it if you aren't interested in the topic, but give me a break.

I disagree. I didn't have a college experience like yours. My friends aren't from college. Or necessarily even enrolled in college. College for me was going to class and that's it. I did very little socializing. I never even went to a football game. So it has nothing to do with college. More to do with AMFs pack a lot of booze for $8 and it's cheaper than buying 6 vodka crans.
Bliss- categorizing drinks by how much alcohol you can pack in there per dollar spent *is* the college experience.
And not exactly what a 33 year old is looking for in her night at a bar.
ETA: though I will say that before they got knocked up, Little Spitfire, cilantro and I had a fabulous night that included several rounds of deeply discounted rail tequila shots at Down the Hatch (an NYU dive bar). And then ended up at karaoke

Or the cheap experience. I can count on 1 hand how many of my friends that I regularly drink with have either 1) gone to college 2) are in college 3) graduated from college
It's not a college experience. It's a "nest poor" experience.
I love drinking & smoking. I still miss smoking a lot. I got pretty tanked at a bar on Mojitos & embarrassed my little sister just this summer...she's the mature one, single, childless & 6yrs younger but more mature than me. My older brother owns a bar which advertises a "seasonal menu" & "hand-crafted cocktails"...I think it sounds pretentious & bit douchey but I guess it works--it's successful & gotten so much national press/awards. Funny enough all my parents ever drank growing up was Canadian Club & 7-up (highballs).

Blah blah blah. It is an "age 18-22 (and maybe a bit beyond)" experience. Which for most of us coincides with college.
Being in college = being poor and drinking a lot for most of us. Call it what you will, the point is you are arguing that your experience was soooo different from everyone else's and in this regard, it's just not.

Sure, I get for a lot of you it relates to college. But there's a whole shit ton of people who didn't go to college. That's my point. What was college for you, isn't college for everyone else.
So what are some more sophisticated cocktails to try next time I go out? I usually just order Jack/Coke or a mojito because I don't know what else to get. I'd love to order a Manhattan, that sounds sexy and badass, but I Googled it and it sounds nasty.
I don't like bitter or sour flavors. I'll drink beer, but I don't enjoy it. (And typically the "better" the beer, the more I dislike it.) I've yet to taste a wine that I can get through an entire glass of. I think I'm doomed to drink like an 18 year old for the rest of my life.

I feel as though I should probably admit that I l didn't leave my shoes there because I changed into a new pair. I left my *only* pair there and somehow spent the rest of the night barefoot.

I agree being in college = being poor. I'm just saying that's the case for me, and MM, but not the case for people I know. Which is what I'm arguing about.
I'm stating that just because people buy cheap drinks doesn't mean they are in college.

I have walked the city streets barefoot holding my heels more times than I should admit
Same here. I feel like it has been ages since I have been tipsy. On a positive note, at least I will be a cheap date by the time I am able to drink again!
