I bought these new J Brand jeans in "sandstone" (tan) thinking it'll be a good addition to my wardrobe and its a neutral. I haven't owned a pair of khakis or tan pants since I was 15, and besides wearing with black, I'm not sure how to style them now!
I kinda like it with the PS sweatshirt I also got in the mail today (pictured), but what other types of tops will work? I know in theory any color goes but I need some ideas/inspiration.

I found this recently that I really liked:
This would be good with a shoe that's a little more winter:
Basic neutrals:
Brown and cognac leather:
I also think they would be great with mint, a polka dot sweater, the striped sweater from the outlet gtg, a tweed Chanel style jacket, striped blazer, faux fur, a brown leather jacket, or a denim jacket and statement necklace. Lately, I've been having fun playing with neutral tones and statement pieces. There's also a neutral sweater with sequin shoulders at Kohl's that would be awesome with them. Olive green would also pair great with them or leopard with a pop of color.
I'm glad there's cognac boots in both of your images Carylee and FCG! I was worried it would be too much brown lol, but I actually do like the all-neutral looks you guys posted.
Carylee - I tried them on with my Sam Edelman leopard flats and I think that looks really cute, maybe paired with a bright top. Actually your sweater from today would be perfect with the orange peek and back!
Britt - love the burgundy idea, I have a couple good sweaters in that color.
And oh! That striped sweater. I've worn it once and I have been contemplating giving it up since I hadn't paired it with anything else. That's a good idea.

For some reason, I've been obsessed with neutrals lately. The blonde blogger seems to wear those pants a lot. She's a fashion student in London. I'm mildly obsessed with her hair. Her pic may go with me for my next blow out.
I think the striped sweater could be good with them. I like the PS sweatshirt too. I think you may be the same way I am with classics and shy away from them at times since they don't seem "forward" enough. The Gap turtleneck poncho could be great with those too. I just got it and fell in love with it yesterday when I wore it out.
FCG I think you're right. I have also tended to stay away from collared button-ups because of that. I finally got a couple in interesting fabrics that I now love to wear, but a basic solid is still "eh" to me. I haven't yet found the right chambray shirt for myself, but I think that would be the one exception to a solid colored button-up for me.

I think I wear a lot of chambray since I was an early adopter on the trend. I liked it with colored denim, but recently I've been choosing other options. Sequins, leather, and the wild stuff is a no brainer, but stuff like this is what I've recently started going for in outfits. It still looks edgy, but more unexpected. I think part of it is being in a creative field. People expect more unusual style when you are in something deemed creative.
