Foul Weather Friends- a friend that is only happy when you are down in the dumps and can't stand to see you happy. Family members qualify too.
Personally my mom and sister among others top my list. I've been pretty happy the last 4 months and they can't stand it. My sister actually texted me that she is mad that I didn't sing at her daughter's birthday party six months ago. I don't even freaking remember it!
I've lost other friends too. True friends love me when I am happy or sad! They pick me up when I am down in the dumps instead of encouraging me to wallow in it. I'm lucky to have a handful of these!
You're right, they have historically been not so nice people. I guess I just stopped caring about everyone's opinion. You know what they say about opinions! I think the choice I made in August was the best choice I've pretty much ever made in my life so I can't go wrong sticking with that!!
Maybe they're not "happy" for you because they think you're making bad decisions in life but you're shutting them out because you don't want to listen. I know that's what happened with me when I was making decisions that weren't the best for me. It's not that people weren't happy for me but that they were concerned for me and I didn't want to listen. Years later, when shit blew up in my face, I realized that they were right and that my happiness was the beginning of a trainwreck.
Just a thought, your mom and sister have historically been assholes though.
It's hard for me to weigh in on this because I'm really close with my mom and aunt (who is LIKE a sister). If they were side eyeing what I was doing I would really have to take a long, hard look at it.
I trust them implicitly. They always have had my best interests in mind. They also were VERY worried about my relationship with XH. And they were right.
If your fam really is drama/BSC that's one thing. But if you've always had a good relationship with them until now, it might be something to take a look at. What are they worried about? Why WOULDN'T your own flesh and blood want to see you happy? Try to put yourself in their shoes.
