asked if she could show her friend my house and pool. She lives one street over, I have never met her before and it was kind of weird. I was just getting out of my car in the driveway so there was no ignoring her.
She then proceeded to ask me how much our pool cost under the guise of building one themselves. She seemed nice but perhaps lacking a filter? I would totally never have the balls to get so personal immediately. Apparently they looked at this house between our first and second offer on it, but thankfully didn't buy it.
Ya. That's crazy. We had our neighbor who had done a few somewhat a-holeish things (and that was the ONLY) contact we had with them) asked how much our irrigation was and how much DH negotiated off his car. Balls.

My neighbors have a gorgeous house. Over the last 8 years, probably 50 people have stopped to ask who did the yard, who made the window boxes, who built the outdoor fireplace, what the name of the paint is, ect. No big deal to me.
I have been looking for a contractor to finish the basement at one of our houses, I am so desperate to find someone decent, that I would stalk anyone I knew had done the same thing, so I get it.
That's weird to me. I think it would be one thing if it was a close-by neighbor who you actually talked to. I also wouldn't find it terribly weird if someone I didn't know asked, "Who put in your windows/doors/whatever else" to find a recommendation for a company themselves. But asking what something costs I don't like. I just find it rude.
I also would feel weird about letting a stranger in to tour my house. Put me on the paranoid bench. I would say no to that.
People do that in our neighborhood all the time. We have small lots and tall, skinny houses. People eventually want to expand their house if they have one of the "base models" but there are only a few real options without having to go through a lot more hassle with the city. So if you have remodeled, chances are someone is going to ask about your remodel. If you are planning on remodeling, chances are you will ask someone about their remodel and they will just invite you in to see it.
