I wanted to get an IUD after DS #2 was born. Unfortunately, it is not included in our high deductible health care plan (does not even count towards our deductible) and I did not want to spend another $900 out of pocket after already meeting our $3k deductible last year.
My pp periods are out of control heavy and I feel like I should consider going back on birth control. The last time I was on it, I paid a $20 monthly copay for Loestrin. Now that I have a high deductible health care plan, I am wondering what the most cost effective BCP will be. I can't see adding another $60/month to our monthly expenses I am also wondering about b/c's effect on my sex drive -- which has finally started coming back after a 5 year hiatus lol.

Will the IUD be covered after January 1? My understanding is it falls within the ACA requirement to provide birth control at no cost. Not sure how it works with a high deductible plan, though.
Have you looked into how much an IUD would cost you at Planned Patenthood? It's been awhile, but when I looked into it, that was the cheapest place to have one inserted without insurance.
Other than that, call around to various pharmacies and see who is cheapest for the pills that work best for you. I would choose a bcp based on cost bc it's there is a lot more to it than cost. Some brands works better for some ppl. If you have a Costco, check there, too. You don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy and they are often the cheapest.

This is what I was going to say. After Jan 1 the new healthcare changes take effect and I believe all forms of BC will be covered.
If not, your doctor can recommend any generic pill based on what you specifically need wrt specific hormone requirements (progesterone, progestin, etc.)
Yeah, I had heard about free b/c as part of Obamacare, but I knew it was one of the hotly debated issues so I wasn't sure where it stood. I will have to ask my dr when I go for my annual. I probably just should have gotten the dang IUD and been done with it, but we were pretty close to hitting our $6k OOPMax and that does not even include pharmaceuticals so it was just a lot of money out the door with a new baby in the house.
