ROFLOL does she really think santa's gong to prime her kid to believe in god?
"What he does is teach children to believe in things they can't see or touch"... and then let them find out it wasn't real because magic isn't real.
I don't think it's crazy to use Santa to prime your kid to believe in things they can't see or touch, whatever that might be to you.
Agreed. I don't care about Santa (my girls and I are Jewish anyway, so no big loss there for me) but it would break my heart for them to reach a point in their lives where they don't believe in things they can't see or touch. We should all have faith/belief, whether it's in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, or just magic and beauty in the world around us.

I'd like to think that most kids who celebrate xmas and at one point believed in Santa, also already believe in God - so this isn't priming them to start believing... it's just helping them to understand why there "is Santa", etc....
i feel bad for those of you who have to bash this.... I think it's nice- thanks for sharing.
Putting aside the god issue, I think that there are intangibles that Santa represents, like love, joy, and generousity towards strangers. If my kids take those ideals to heart, I'll be happy.

It's been a while since you've been an ass, huh?
I just don't have your special talent to keep it up 24/7.
Kinda destroys the whole premise when the thing you want to use to prime them is something you admit doesn't exist. Any kid with an ounce of logic is going to connect the two in pretty short order.
No kids don't NEED to believe in Santa. But if you do Santa with your kids I think this is a great way to explain the "truth" and still keep the spirit of Christmas real for them. And if you do that spirit without Santa or anything magical then good for you. But as someone who plans to have Santa included in our Christmas traditions, I like this.
