I am constantly amazed at what people on ebay buy - and GET - for used goods. What should be the discount paid for something that is used - both super gently and regularly? Obviously assuming it's not something that is not easily available new or considered "vintage."
I mentioned on an online forum I am a part of an interest in a certain video game for DS. One of the other members said she was selling hers very gently and to pm her for info. I can get it new at TRU this weekend for $15 so I am interested to see what I can come up with...Another woman on the board posted an Imaginarium train table for sale. I think normal value is $150 and she asked - and got - $120 for it. I see it brand new on TRU for $110 this week.
DH sells guitar parts and such on ebay and says this all the time. He is constantly amazed at the deals he gets and then the amount he often resells for- usually more than he paid.
I sell stuff at deep discounts just to get it out of my house sometimes, I know I'm not making a profit based on what I originally paid for it but it's cash in my hand now and it gets the clutter out.
I always price compare though. A lady on my local mom's board was selling a USED otterbox case for $40! I was like, ummmm I can get that NIP for $14.99 on amazon can you price match that? She wouldn't, but eventually came down to $20 and offered it to me, again, I pointed out again it's $14.99 on amazon with free shipping. She never sold it.

It really depends. With video games, I usually check gohastings.com, Amazon, and Gamestop for used games pricing. I regularly see people asking for prices above retail prices. Just because you bought it for $60 a year ago doesn't mean the price has stayed at $60. Same with older cell phone models. They usually don't sell.
I am on a Facebook selling group and some of the prices people ask for are just insane. Most of them don't sell, but every once in a while I will be surprised.
I also see things on Ebay go a lot higher than they would locally. Especially name brand clothing and popular items like the Ergo carriers. I usually shoot for at least 50% off. If it's only 20-30% off I can usually find that price at some point during the year through sales. I regularly buy clothing for DD and with those I usually shoot for a basic price per item. Every once in a while I will see an item I really want and be willing to pay more for. For basic items like jeans, leggings, t-shirts, etc. I am usually not willing to pay more for used Gymboree or whatever than I would pay for new at Old Navy or Children's Place.
