I actually like my job... most of the time. I also want to slap an engineer today. But that's because he is being a whiny baby who is demanding hand-holding on really simple tasks. Which is why I'm posting here instead of helping him out. That's what you get, asshole!

Me: Can you please re-run the BOM for board you just redid?
Eng: Yeah, um. Do you remember what changes I made to that product? Or what changes I was supposed to make? Did I make them?
Me: No, I have no idea- but I see you created a new schematic and never ran the BOM.
Eng: (All huffy) I guess I'll figure it out on my own. But you should be able to keep track of the changes.
Me: Did you document prior issues?
Eng: I don't have time for this. (sighs and walks away)
Me: Um. Can you be a bit more specific, because we have a lot of POs that come in. What's the project number on the quote?
Eng: I didn't write a quote.
Me: So you're waiting on a PO for a job that you never quoted to the client?
Eng: ...Can you show me how to write a quote?
I have tried to teach this engineer to write quotes multiple times. I'm not talking 50+ page bid specs, I'm talking about a simple 1-2 page quotation for engineering service hours. We even have a template for it, but he can't figure it out for the life of him. He also talks obnoxiously loud.

lol. It's a new position here so it's very much a learning as we go type thing- which at times makes me want to pull out my hair. The hardest part for me is that my husband is my engineering VP that I work under.

Yeah, that's awesome.
Ooff, yeah that would be challenging You can't go home and complain about him

Heh, I have a very loud talker too. I want to just say WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME?!? every time I am in his office.
Melodramatic: That sucks. I met my bf at work and while we sometimes do work together, neither of us reports to each other. Do you find that since you work together, that you talk about work at home a lot more or a lot less?
Calamity: We have TWO loud talkers. This one is just plain old loud. The other likes to have personal cell phone conversations near the front of the office... right outside my door. I know waaaaay too much about his personal life and doctor's appointments. D:

oh mcpeaches, that is happening here too. I'm "supposed" to be only working on one site for right now- until we get the bugs worked out of our new system, then move to the others as well. But once word got out to the project managers that I knew what I was doing, I started getting POs that made no sense to me b/c they weren't from my site.
Me: hey, this needs to be coded to site XXXX not site YYYYY. Eng: Oh, ok. 2 weeks later the same damn invoice lands back on my desk. Eng: Hey, company Y wants to know why our payment is late. Me: I dont' see it in our system. What PO did you assign it? Eng: Oh, I was supposed to give it a PO? Me: ((head desk))

It's not bad really. I actually helps that we know what each other is talking about with regards to work. He travels Mon-Th most every week so we really aren't together that much. We've been doing it for over 5 years so we sort of have a system down.
However, there have been dinners at home where we have had to say to each other- you handled work situation wrong etc. But we've at least learned HOW to say it and WHEN to say it which has helped tremendously.

This is much of the same for us. At first, I was worried about the work talk coming home, but we both like our jobs and the industry so its nice to be able to understand wtf he's talking about. We also laid out boundaries really quick about when we do have a work criticism of the other - its said at work and stays at work.
He is also starting to travel A LOT for work. He's been gone for 2-3 days a week for the past month and a half. It sucks a lot sometimes, but then I realize I can watch Law and Order reruns without criticism!
