For my Aunt who is like my mother I got tickets to tour the Winslow Homer studio now onwed by the Portland Art Museum in the spring. She is an artisit so I think she will love this, also we will be spending the whole day together which will be fun for me too.
I built a train board for my son (screwed down tracks in a pattern) that slides under the couch. He's only 2 so too little to build tracks on his own and he loves playing with the ones at TRU and B&N. Right now he just drives his trains over the couch arms, dogs, us, etc.
Play kitchen for DS. He loves to "help" us in the kitchen and we're hoping he LOVES this. We got him some fun Melissa & Doug food to use with it too. Can't wait to see his reaction. He's only 19 months so he's still sort of little for it but I think he'll get it.
The actual thing is not amazing, but it was fun to give. (I didn't wait!)
I got my parents a blueray player that also streams netflix. They didn't have a way to use netflix streaming with their TV (and may not have realized how easy it is - my mom just uses it on her ipad). Plus someone lent her Season 2 of Downton Abbey, but it was on BlueRay. So the player was the obvious way to help her enjoy all of that.
She has chemo today so I gave it to her last weekend so she could enjoy it. She was so stoked. It's so hard to find things that she really enjoys these days.
I bought my sister a Corningware set for Christmas, and I'm working on putting together a couple of index cards of favorite family casseroles to give her with it. Should be fun.
It's small and silly, but I bought the dog a squeaker toy shaped like a T-bone steak that she'll love!
For my BFs birthday and Christmas. I got him a leather jacket. He's always wanted on but thinks they're too expensive. He's also been talking about needing a new coat. I also scoured the internet for his size in a vintage special edition jersey from his favourite soccer team. He's getting good gifts this year
Silly, but I am excited to give my mom the supersize box of Whitman's chocolate I bought her. My great grandmother used to keep Christmas tags in a Whitmans's box and my mom always mentioned that every year growing up. I think she will really like it.
I already gave my ILs their tix to the Gaithers bc it was last Friday. We are also surprising them with tickets to the Trans Siberian Orchestra too but we are going with them to that.
- Asus Tablet for my sister. I've had it for 3 months now and it's been killing me. - iRobot Roomba for my parents. - 40" LED TV for H's grandparents. - Day of paintball for BIL. He's 12 and loves to shoot.
I'm still looking for something really awesome for H's parents in addition to the lame juicer and oranges we got for them. We don't usually do much for H's grandparents so they're really going to be surprised. They still have a giant old clunker and we just wanted to get them up to date haha.
ETA: I also can't wait for my mom to get my brothers gift. We conspired together. I just got a new wool trench coat that she really liked but couldn't justify spending $150 on it when she already has an old one. So I told my brother and he got it for her while she went back and forth about it for several days haha. Now it's out of stock
The Breaking Bad candy someone posted an Etsy link for last week. It's going in my husband's stocking. He's getting some big gifts, but this one little stocking stuffer is going to be a HUGE hit.

Back story: My grandma (Dad's Mom), who lived with us growing up until about 4 years ago, passed away in April this year while I was in Australia (and couldn't get home for the funeral). When my dad and aunt were going through her stuff at our house, they found a half-knitted blanket she had been working on, with all the yarn that went with it.
I finished the blanket and am going to give it back to my dad.

This is so great. I opened a gift a couple years into dating my now DH and his grandmother knit me a toss blanket, I disolved into tears. She is gone now, it is still one of my favorite gifts.

That's so sweet
not even on Christmas but the ornament I got for DH for our tree this year is a tiny clay replica of the new house we just moved into last month. I can't wait until Friday when we decorate the tree to give it to him.

The "big" gifts for my girls- a new bike for my oldest, a razor scooter for my middle, and a vtech v-reader for the littlest. These are things they have all been asking for for months.
Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed. - G. K. Chesterton
That's a great idea, Pamela! Maybe a good birthday idea for my DS.
I found a few blogs on doing it, but I did it on the super easy and cheap. Half sheet of MDF cut down in store to less than the depth of the couch, painted one side with leftover enamel paint, and laid out the pattern with hand me down tracks. I screwed from the top so you can see the screws, but did use a countersink bit to recess the screws so they don't stick up. Then I put felt pads on the bottom so it would slide better than 2 leftover cabinet handles to help grab it to pull it out.
This is kind of silly, but we're telling my parents we're pregnant on Christmas. We're wrapping up pictures of us holding up a sign. Don't worry, we're getting them "real" presents, too, but I'm pretty excited to tell them.

I got DH this Film Map -- a map based loosely on old Hollywood, where every street and landmark is a movie reference. I was really excited to get it for him all secretly because he mentioned in MONTHS ago, and then he mentioned it again closer to Christmas, the stinker. :-P At least I know he really wants it. I found a frame just the right size at IKEA and had it spray-mounted and everything, it looks great.

Where did you get this? I would love to get something like this for my friend who just bought a house.

I made a photo book of DD #1's Tae Kwon Do black belt graduation as one of her Hanukkah presents. I'm saving it for the last night (the girls asked me to "save the best present for last"). I spent two weeks designing it, and I hope she loves it as much as I do!

Not silly, that will be a lot of fun to watch them open that!

DS' iPod touch. He's 6, but has always just used my hand me downs, so this will be the first one that is HIS. He knows that is his "big present" this year and is so excited about it ... like counting down the days until he gets it on Christmas.

etsy- but she's closed her shop to new orders until after Christmas. but it's freaking adorable and spot on. I love it
Ironically my MIL. I found a hummingbird jewelry holder (she LOVES hummingbirds) at an antique shop a few months ago that she will love. I plan to put some birthstone earrings in it to complement the gift. :Y:
