I know a few women on this board have run it - what did you think? I'm looking for a fun, mid-sized marathon that's within driving distance of Rochester, NY. This would be my first marathon, and I thought running into and out of Canada would make it interesting. Plus, DH is from Flint and his parents still live there, so getting to see them would be a bonus.
I did the 1/2 last year and loved it! The city is great and running through Canada was fun! I love that this race has huge crowd support and lets you say that you did things that sound ridiculous - like that you ran across the Ambassador bridge and through the Detroit-Windor Tunnel... International running is pretty exciting

Thanks for the replies.
Kate - how annoying was the bottleneck on the bridge? I was hoping that because of the corral starts, that kind of backup would be minimized. Also, how hilly was the course overall? I read about the hills at the end, and now I'm not sure that I want to do that to myself lol.

The bottleneck wasn't annoying as it was expected. What really torqued me off was the people who insisted on still trying to RUN the dumb thing. We were *standing still* and there were idiots swinging their arms and trying to dodge us. Seriously? Save your energy!
The hills weren't BAD by hill standards; I didn't know any better to compare. A more seasoned friend who ran it said he was surprised how hilly it was, but I was blissfully ignorant. There is a hill at the VERY END that I whined about; I think that was in my recap. The rest of them were more spread around the course.
I ran the full last year and there was no bottleneck on the bridge or in the tunnel. It's a great race, really well run and there's a lot of crowd support. I highly recommend it for a first time marathon. Plus the medal and shirt are awesome!
