Good Morning-
I have been lurking on this, among other proboards and previously Next boards for waaay too long. The main reason (as illustrated by the timing of this post) that I have never bothered to actually post is that I work in a job with absolutely no time to be online during the workday and end up reading threads after they have pretty much pettered out. The main reason I have *finally* decided to actually post is that I am pregnant (5 months) and don't have any close friends who have had kids yet, don't know anyone whatsoever in the area who is pregnant or has very young children, and generally just don't personally know any couples in a similar income bracket/job situation/geographical area from whom to get advice. I'm not sure how much I'll end up posting, or where (I've lurked generally on here, regular MM, ML and CE&P), but this seemed like the obvious first choice since most of the initial questions/desires for companionship related to motherhood. I know there is also the baby specific boards but honestly, I'm not sure how much I could relate to peole who *just* want to talk about baby stuff 24/7. Basics about me: I live in the DC area (but not from here, nor is my H), I'm a clinical social worker working with children, H works for the federal government....feel free to ask more....I'll try and answer quickly although I am not great about always being by my computer/available.

Thanks:) I hope I am replying "correctly" (from a technological point of view). We are pretty sure girl, but she was QUITE not into the whole opening her legs thing on the anatomy scan and my insurance is not paying for any more ultrasounds before 30 weeks so we are going to pay for an elective 3D one next week that lets you come back if they are unable to confirm gender for sure at the first appointment. (I tried to convince the ultrasound doctor last time to let me take a walk around the office and then try again but she was clearly like 'your insurance is paying me x amount of dollars for something I have already completed from a medical standpoint and I have other patients waiting' so that did not fly)

In terms of questions, I feel like I'm in a slightly unique place knowledge-wise, in that I work with children professionally, have studied child development at a master's level and have taught parenting for years...so I feel pretty set in terms of my plans for CIO/not CIO, level of attachment parenting, discipline strategies, etc. But what I have absolutely no freaking idea about is stuff like daycare, finding the best carseat/crib/stroller, etc. (I've worked pretty much exclusively in a very high poverty context, so daycare = whatever was subsidized, baby supplies/equipment = whatever we could find that was being provided by a local organization or charity.)
Hi! I just came out of the shadows this week - I am also in the DC area
(I really hope I am doing this quoting feature right....)
what general area do you live in, if you don't mind saying? Feel free to list link to your intro (if you did one) if you don't want to repeat yourself:)
Welcome! I agree, post even if the thread seems dead. They often can get resurrected. People always lvoe to talk about what stroller/carseat/etc they picked
Haha ok, well than I'd be delighted to hear about any baby items that anyone has a specific recommendation on!
Welcome! There are a lot of people on there from the DC area.
Thanks:) Yeah, I've noticed which is why I am HOPEFUL that posting is a good idea. Although the DC area is fairly big....I also feel like my household income/specific job/family situation is a bit atypical for the area but maybe I just haven't met the right people (ie people in similar situations)
