Have you guys talked about this? Local gossip has it that Scott Brown will definitely run in the special election for US Senate if Kerry becomes the Secretary of State, even after his recent defeat by Elizabeth Warren for his senate seat.
I wonder who the Dems would pick to run against him, and how that person would do.
Either way, I bet tons of special interest money and national money will be poured into the campaign.
FWIW, the special election rule (rather than the governor appointing a senator until the next regular election) was passed when Kerry was running for President. Because the governor was Romney and the Dem legislature didn't want him to automatically appoint a Republican.
But the special election gets so little coverage and turn out that it wouldn't be hard for Brown to win if he motivated enough of his supporters.
Brown could win since he has name recognition, but what if Deval Patrick ran?
Patrick could probably beat Brown but I think it will require one of the Kennedys -Vicki, Joe 2nd or Teddy Jr. The congressmen who had their hats in the ring last time do not have the fire power (Capuano etc.).

what about the rumors that Bill Weld might run?
He's at my former law firm now - from what I hear from folks from there he would defer if Brown chose to run. I would love to see him run and depending on what he had to say - would consider voting for him.
