The first time I saw my former hairstylist Sami, I paid around $300, after that I would pay around $260 just for color, but her technique that she patented would last me 6 months. She is one of the best in Houston and has worked in Europe and for celebrities.
This year I started seeing a girl I used to go to school with because she's pretty good and much closer and cheaper. I pay $135 for color and cut. I usually wait long in between appointments though. At least 5 months.
It's always about $225 after tax and tip. That's why I got them to colour it close to my natural colour last August and haven't looked back since. However, I'm still paying $80 for a freaking trim after tax and tip.
I tried a new place a few weeks ago and paid $65 for a shampoo, cut, blow dry, and tip. i was kind of as I never spent more than $30 before. I think next time i'll do just a wet cut bc I'm cheap
I will admit that I pay for the experience, along with the actual coloring.
When I go to my salon, I check-in in the lobby and the girl radios up to the salon that "Ms. Breeful is on her way up." I get up there and someone greets me by name and lets me know that my colorist will be ready in a few moments. I check my coat and top (if it's bulky) and put on a robe. I sit on the couch and one of the beverage ladies comes over to take my order. My colorist's assistant comes to get me and lead me back to his area. She puts a plastic wrap over my bag and stores it next to the station. My colorist arrives and we chat about what I want to do with my hair. He goes and prepares the color. The assistant leaves to go get me some magazines. By this time the beverage lady comes back with my cappuccino (in fine china) and asks if I would like cinnamon. Of course. Then the stylist is back and starts my hair. He's a gossip lover, so as he works he tells me the latest about the celebrities that he works on and points out who is there right now, etc. After finishing putting the coloring in, they do their magic with the heat, bringing me back and forth to the wash station (they wash out the color gradually so it is the exact same shade everywhere). I like this stage because there is ALWAYS some older woman dripping in diamonds that has her little dog with her.. I enjoy chatting with them and usually get to hold their pups while showing them pics of mine. After that's all finished they lead me to my stylist who asks me how I want my hair styled. A girl comes by to pick up my credit card and run it. She brings it back, my hair is finished. I stop by my colorist's station to show him how it turned out. We throw a few air kisses and I go and get my stuff. I leave the tip at the front and take the elevator down.
So, you see, I pay for the experience, along with the fabulous coloring. It's always a lovely time with beautiful people, celebrity sightings and getting pampered. It's just a really fun way to spend a few hours by yourself.
This sounds really fun. I want to have a spa day with nic /gavel
For $480, I hope they posted a PIP and it was Kate Middleton hair.
Otherwise, they wasted a shitload of money.
I don't care how much someone spends on their hair, because heck, I like nice handbags and choose not to spend much on my hair. But - her response doesn't compute. "VHCOL area with no trustworthy MM salons as far as I can tell. So junior stylists at a very nice salon."
I wanted to scream when I read that. It's okay to say "I make a lot of money and enjoy spending it on high end things." The idea that everyone in NYC is spending this on haircuts b/c "that's just what it costs" is ludicrous.
Yes, please! It really is a lot of fun. And they do such a good job that I only go about 3 times a year. So, broken down with what I save getting my haircut on the cheap, it really isn't that bad cost-wise. Plus, the salon is in a really great area and there are a zillion places to go right after to show off our new hair! Lol!
My usual hairdresser does it for about $65 for cut and color, but my old roommate, who is a hairdresser does a full set of highlights and lowlights, plus cut for $30, which is a great price!
The most I've ever paid was $100 including tip ($80 for cut and style). Currently I pay $65-$75 including tip since they change the actual price of the cut from $45 to $55 every time I go. I also go every six-eight weeks.
Yesterday I paid $120 for single process color , cut and blowdry. But, I adore my stylist and it's a high end salon in a MCOL area. The experience is great too, I get a back massage in the chair at the wash station, along with a hand and arm massage, and complimentary makeup touch up. My color is fabulous, I'll have to post a picture, I am so pleased with it!
