I think the garden comment at the end was Voltaire's way of saying to make the best of what you have. He spent the entire book mocking the Professor who thought that this was the best of all possible worlds when things consistently went wrong, but Candide was always getting out of things by making use of the people around him.
The best part of the book was when the old lady put whiney Cunegonde in her place.
