Apparently, when it rains, it pours. I was supposed to start a 6-month contract position on Wednesday, but I got an offer this afternoon for the permanent position that I really wanted. Yay!
The permanent position has better pay, benefits and stability. The pay is good, but I've always read that you should always negotiate. I'm a little nervous about how to approach that.
My soon-to-be boss presented the salary as an offer, and I'm meeting with her in the morning to go over benefits and sign on the dotted line. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to negotiate?
Okay awesome! It can be really awkward to phrase those types of negotiations. I think last time I negotiated, I just said, "I want to make over $X." And then they counter-offered with X. I was like "Sweet!"
You might also see if you can negotiate on things like vacation days, etc.
Thanks, Smock. 10-15% is right around where I was going to ask. I figure that will give me a little extra, and I can always ask for a raise later after I wow them with my skills. LOL.
