The Stand and Little Women? You peoples are crazy. Those are two of my favorite books! Little Women is also one of my favorite movies, too. I will agree with Stand By Me and Shawshank, but I loved both of the novellas, too. Stand By Me was on TV the other day and I watched part of it - such a great movie.
I feel like I used to have a go-to answer for this question and now I can't remember what it was. Hmm.

The sequel to Silence of the Lambs, the one with Julianne Moore. I think it's called Hannibal. The movie makes a better case for the ending of the book but skips over the actual ending. So bizarre.
I feel like I'm the only one that was "meh" about the movie. Don't get me wrong, there was some great acting in it.
Maybe the problem was I read it too close to seeing the movie.
I thought the movie was good, but they left out so much of Skeeter's relationship with what's-his-name, that them being together, and then breaking up, seemed totally bizarre and out of nowhere (if you hadn't read the book).
I feel like S King just didn't quite finish the ending in the book and the movie was more complete and satisfying.
Agreed. Also, the problem with book --> movie transitions is that books are long and content needs to be cut for the movie. Since Shawshank Redemption was just a novella, all content was able to appear in the movie with even more added.
