Yesterday a friend and I went down the shore for the day.
The ride takes about an hour. She complained during that entire time --- I tried to change the topic but somehow she got back on subject.
And she's so frigging vehement about it.
Then we get to the beach. It's now 9 bucks to get on for the day. Wouldn't ya know she had a complaint about that too "Fuckiing nine DOLLARS! I don't have enough MOney now for LUNCH!" and she squawked about that for a good minute.
Dude, you know it was eight something bucks last year, so act accordingly.
This pretty much went on all day...we didn't even like the traffic tie up on the way out of the beach town (I guess everybody was trying to get out at once since it looked like a storm was coming). She bitched about that, too.
She'll find the littlest things to complain about and put her own little twist on it: "Bitch in the car ahead of us: MOVE IT!"
(This is why I drive on trips like these. You don't know what it's like when she starts in on things she sees on the road, even if it's the typical "old man in a hat" driving a 1990 K car and going 2 miles an hour)
And don't ask what it's like when it comes time to paying the bill at a restaurant. She'll make a federal case out of the tip. Everybody and their uncle knows you leave one -- she'll comment on how she doesn't make any money and how she didn't get a raise, blah blah blah -- and then she'll reluctantly leave the tip.
What can ya do? It's tiresome and it's getting to be too much.
She needs a good swift kick to the neck. Have you tried the direct approach, rather than just trying to change the subject. A plain, "OMG you're exhausting!" would open the door to communication. I'd personally drop her. But I have no patience. So there is that.

I can't take whiners. Just STFU and try to see the bright side or GTFO of my car. I go on vacation to the beach to fucking get away from pissing & moaning. If she thinks that is some bizarre way to make conversation then she needs to be seriously redirected.
