They are already doing pretty well at the front door (two separate keypad-ed doors, each individual parent has their own code, etc). I initiated a conversation with her because I'm more interested in what teachers are instructed to do if there is a security concern. I was happy with her answers.
She said some parents have been pushing them to do things that are just not feasible. For example, walling up the large windows in each class, or padlocking all the exterior gates (hello - what if there is a fire?). I want my kids to be safe but given the infinitesimal chances of a Newtown happening again, we have to keep some perspective, no?

Probably more of a risk of a fire or other reason to evacuate. Also, what if someone gets in despite the security, I would want to know my kids could get out.
