I was opening the mail yesterday and got what I thought was a Christmas Card until I looked a little closer. Its from the governor of my state and said that babies begin receiving vaccines at 2 months. It had a cute detachable card where you could track the vaccines they had received. Did anyone else get something like this? I just thought it was so weird.
Great. Maybe more education will encourage more people. Not JennycCarthy, but there are probably people ignorant to all the benefits due to whatever reason (language barrier, no access to healthcare, reading dumb books, etc)

When DS was born, we got a card like that from the gov & his wife in the hospital with all the other random stuff that was given. We also have a "passport" that documents all his vaccinations. Its nice that I don't have to call my Peds office to get the records, I have them at home.
Slightly off topic, but somehow I got into this long involved conversation yesterday with two women who have children with autism. They both believe that it was caused by inflammation issues in their children (that the kids have compromised immune systems because of receiving the flu shot in pregnancy). Anyway, neither of them have vaccinated their subsequent kids and I got the feeling that they try to sway people with babies against vaccines. I was kind of :-| because I had my daughter with me (who I do vaccinate on schedule) but I guess I understand where they're coming from. They want to make sure they're doing everything they can for their kids.
Anyway, I know this board is VERY pro-vaccines What do you think about this kind of thing? (Parents of children with autism not vaccinating younger siblings).

I thought it was strange since I wasn't able to get her vaccinated at her 2 month checkup since she was sick. Now a week later I'm getting a card talking about the importance of vaccines. Its probably just coincidence, but I felt like a bad parent.

I haven't heard of this, but that is a really cute card and a nice keepsake. I think it's a wonderful idea to help promote statewide vaccinating and awareness.
We vaccinate on an alternative schedule. We got a stern letter from our local health department saying "[DS] is behind on his vaccines." We're right on schedule, just not the health department's schedule. If it had been as cute as yours MP I would have kept it. But it was much more "make an appointment right.this.minute!!!"
Violets, I can see why these parents choose not to vaccinate their younger children, but I also think there isn't enough known about autism to subsantiate their claims. There is a small fraction of people who have a mitochondrial mutation that makes them exquisitely sensitive to vaccines and may contribute to autism-like issues. Hence the government fund for parents to sue if they can show a connection. But to just randomly say, "Hey, I think getting the flu shot made my kid autistic based on a small study, so I'm not going to vaccinate any of my other kids" is a little extreme
