We keep about $100-$200 worth in local currency at home for things like babysitters (in case we forget to hit an ATM on our way home) or cabs or things like that.
We have more in dollars simply because we've traveled back and forth to the U.S. and always end up with leftover. In a true emergency, maybe that would be worth something?
We keep 1K in 20s and 50s in a safe as part of our emergency preparedness (should there be a disaster and no electricity etc for more than a few days- you can still pay cash for needed items, hotel, gas etc. )
We usually take 300 a month and put it in an enverlope in a dresser drawer each month for grab & go, non budgeted items, tips, etc.
I never have cash and don't stash any at home, but my DH has a few $20s stashed around at any given time. And my kids probably have $30-50 each in their piggy banks. Does that count?

just cash at home? probably $50 in change in a jar in the office. otherwise it's what's in our wallets and that ranges from $0 - $500 depending. We aren't big cash people.
I think DH has 500 in the safe. Not sure for what purpose really. It's not like that amount willget us very far in the event of a zombie apocalypse, lol.

I raid my kids' piggie banks all the time when I need cash. I am bad about remembering to go to the atm. That should probably go in the flameful thread, lol.
(In fairness to me though, it is usually for treats for them. I curse the day that DS figured out what the ice cream truck bell meant.)
Thanks! I'm glad to see there are people all over the place. And I don't really know what emergencies would require cash and that's why I've never had any. I'm working on upping our disaster preparedness stuff as it's winter/snow storm season here and though maybe I should have some cash. I think I'll get a couple hundred dollars and call it a day.

We keep around $100. We haven't had to use it in a true emergency, but it has saved our buts many times when we need to move quickly on a CL purchase, need cash to tip someone, or need a little spending cash and don't have enough time to get to an ATM.

We keep $1k in cash in our safe, along with our passports and other stuff we would need in an emergency. We had a bad snow storm several years ago where we needed cash to buy groceries and things for over a week.

I currently have $40 in my wallet and that is a lot for us. I don't live in an area with major disaster concerns though. We've had one storm with extended power outages in the 10 years I have lived here, and once any store was open, the bank was too. I do keep a case of water and some small food items in case of emergency, so I think we'd be OK without cash for awhile.
None, but I keep meaning to correct. Though most disasters I've gone through in the NYC metro area I've been able to prepare for, I always remember the black out. It was boiling ass hot and none of the ATM's worked and there was ONE place that was selling pizzas they could cook on a gas powered stove and I SO wanted one. Something to cool down would have been nice, too.
