DD1 has 4 items on her Santa list. One of them is an easy bake oven. (The others were 1. Beanie Boo stuffy, 2. lego, and 3. iPod)
My girlfriend had said she'd get her one for her as a birthday gift (birthday is a few days before xmas). So, Santa obviously wouldn't get a duplicate.
However, my friend waited until yesterday to go look and now they seem to be sold out everywhere. She offered to go drive around some more today but I told her to just forget about it- she has a sick kid at home and her own stuff to deal with, without driving all over town.
So, tell me it will be ok that she's only getting 2/4 items on her Santa list (cause she's not getting an ipod)?? I am feeling sad for my DD that she isn't getting her #1 gift request from Santa.
I personally would be getting one of Amazon or finding one if at all possible. It seems like a fairly reasonable request, so I would try hard to make it happen.
I would call local stores and drive up to an hour to get the oven, or pay extra to have it shipped overnight/2 day guaranteed by Christmas from Amazon.
I agree with hens that it's such a reasonable request, that I would do my best to make it happen. She will LOVE receiving it.
ETA: I bet a local Walmart or Target would at least have the baking mixes and/or accessories. You could buy a few of those and put cash in an envelope to wrap with them, and a note from Santa stating "I ran out of ovens, sorry, etc., here's money to get one with your mom/dad after Christmas, I hear they're out of stock everywhere so it may be a few weeks, but you have one coming from Santa!"

I will add that we a) are in Canada so Amazon is a no-go, and b) are going on vacation for xmas and won't be in a position to have anything shipped to our location. (its kinda remote).
I do plan to give her my old ipod classic, but i think she's asking for the touch to play games.
I don't know, I always had the understanding that a letter to Santa was just a request, and that Santa would do his best, but not even he could give everything to every child. Unless she's so far always been given everything she's asked for, do you think she'll be terribly upset?
I'd also do some calling around on the oven - there must be SOME store that has it nearby? Otherwise I kind of like the idea of buying some accessories and including a note "from Santa" to buy it after Christmas.
Can you make the drive? I wouldn't bother calling and asking if she wanted you to drive there for her. I would just get it myself if I could and have it be a Santa gift. I'm wondering if your friend didn't bother calling your local Walmart because she went one place, they didn't have it, and is no longer interested in driving around to get one.

Normally she writes lists that are 20+ items long. So she never gets it all. DH thinks that 2/4 should be good enough for her. We are also getting her items that are not on her list.
And since she's getting a million gifts, who knows if she will even notice or care that she doesn't get this one.
Normally I'd say that it's OK not to get everything on the list. We rarely get everything, and DS usually asks for about 4 things. But since this was her No. 1 request, I would try really hard to make it happen. Your friend shouldn't have waited this long if it was her favorite thing.
MY friend is driving to the far Walmart to see if they have it. If they don't, I told her to forget about it. She is a great friend to spend so much time looking for this gift for my DD.

I just didn't want us both driving there. She hit 4 places yesterday and then checked online inventory (like I just did) today. Lets cross our fingers they have it.

I heard that easy bake ovens now have a heating element in them so they are similar to toaster ovens (they no longer cook with a light bulb). Could you get small toaster oven? I realize it is not purple.
DS only had one thing on his Santa list, "a car he can drive". Umm, not only is it much more than we planned on spending, but we don't have a yard. I found it on an Amazon lightning deal at 60% off and had it shipped to my parents house. I am ridiculous. Can you try consignment stores? It also might be worth it to post something on facebook. Maybe a friend has a used one you can have? In any case, I don't think it is a huge deal. I try to point out that the list to Santa are suggestions, not a guarantee.

Thanks. We are just going to set her up for the disappointment and leave it at that.
. I have one here that's never been used/touched but no box & the little trays seem to have gone missing. My DD got it for last Christmas & obviously lost enthusiasm in the shuffle of other stuff. I wish I could send it to you. I really try to get them what they want & DH is nutso about this...but you tried. I'd just get something else she'd like.

DH got me one two years ago for Christmas. It was a joke because I always talked about not getting one as a child. I never opened it. I would send it to you in a heartbeat if I thought it would get there in time.
I really like cloudbee's idea of buying the mixes.
Thanks ladies, you are so kind! I just had a talk with DD about Santa and I think she will be ok. My friend is determined to get this for her as a belated birthday gift once they are stocked again after the holidays.
Sorry that you couldn't find one. We had a talk with DS this year about how Santa only picks a few things from the list so that he can fit all of the toys in his bag. Maybe something like thag would work? We almost always just do two gifts from Santa.
