Judging is still going on right now but I think I have the design category on lock. The cookies were a real pain though. I don't know whose clever idea it was to not use a real cookie cutter. I laid so many out that fell apart. It's hard because the shape I made was really big and I used so much dough. I was up until 1:30 in the morning because besides the 8+ elves I had to make a dozen regular cookies for each person in the swap.
I didn't have the right pens for the eyes and my brown icing I bought for the hair I couldn't use because I brought the wrong kind of tip (different brand). I was going to mix brown and white together to make the face but decided tan was good enough for me.
All in all, pretty annoying especially since I lost two nights to bed rest. But if I win I'll probably enter again next year because I like to win.
LMAO. Are you serious about winning? What kind of competition is this?
(Sorry if you are serious)
Well there's only 7 people and most people go for the taste category. There are two people who I regularly go up against for design but one left and the other isn't here today.
It's just my office cookie swap, not Time Magazine.
We weren't saying that stuff for the hell of it. There's a definite learning curve to icing sugar cookies. But I give you a million credit points for (a) finishing, and (b) showing us pessimists the final result. And the good news is you have a year to practice so you can ace it next year. Enjoy the cookie buffet!

Thanks! Yeah I'm happy they are just regognizable so my expectations weren't that high after being talked down here. Next year I'm going to strategize way earlier.
Given that no one (I'm guessing yourself included) thought they'd look exactly like the ones in the first picture - I think they turned out pretty good. Especially for your first try. If I had made them they probably wouldn't even resemble elves.
