The results came back negative for trisomy 13, 18 and 21! So in other words, no major chromosomal abnormalities! The relief we are feeling right now is unbelievable.
This is a MAJOR hurdle even though there are still a lot of problems we are dealing/could be dealing with. There is obviously still the issue of the hygroma, but at least now we have some hope that it may resolve itself. Also we have to be concerned that the hygroma could cause defects in organs, particularly the heart.
Since the test looks at all of the chromosomes, it can also tell you sex. We went in not wanting to know but understanding that it might not be an option as it might come out in the discussion of the results. Well, it did come out but we were so happy about the negative results that we don't really care. It's a girl! I was convinced it was a boy so I am surprised but soooo excited!
With it being a girl, the possibility of Turner Syndrome is still there as well. We were under the impression from the specialist that the test would be able to tell us about TS but my doctor said when they called the lab, they were told they couldn't test for that. So we're a little confused but since the specialist is planning to do amniocentisis anyway, we've been told we'll be able to tell at that point.
THANK YOU so much to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, good wishes, and hugs over these last few weeks. Even though it's going to be a long journey still, we feel so incredibly lucky to have this bright of an outlook. I truly think that having so many people caring about us has been a blessing and I am so grateful to have you all for support!
