Just wondering how common this is. Mine did not and my old boss never did either. I guess another manager on another team within our department does. We gave our boss something for bosses day so I guess my office sometimes does stuff like this and sometimes doesn't.
Our company did give a party and the department head ( not my boss) threw a party at her home. No tangible gifts but at least someone made some effort lol.
When I worked my boss gave us 4 hours of unofficial time off that we could take whenever. The university also gave us for additional hours as a holiday bonus.
DH's old boss gave a little gift each year. Something like a coffee mug filled with candy or some baked goods. The old owner would give $50 traveller's checks to his management employees until he went crazy (long story). This was nice except everyone always got mad because he would hand out $100+ checks to random people at the hospital that he barely knew and only $50 to the people that worked hard for him year after year. His current boss took the directors (5 people) to lunch as a holiday treat.
everyone got a $125 gift card as a bonus from the board of directors though! that's a huge gesture that doesn't happen often, but we've had a really good year financially and it's been a really tough year on the job (2 of my coworkers were assaulted and run over with a car in april, for example) so they especially wanted to acknowledge everyone's work and commitment this year.
The company gave us $100 gift cards and my boss took the department out for lunch. I gave my employees $20 to their favorite lunch place. Oh, and my boss also said she'd buy my EC planner every year.
We have a few different holiday parties - one for our large division, a slightly smaller one for our group within the division, and then a fabulous dinner for just my boss and his direct team, if that makes sense. My boss will be gifting everyone a 100 gc, and I also give all of my direct reports a handwritten note reflecting on all they have done and a bottle of champagne. Our bonuses do not hit until later in the first quarter, so its nice to have a few end of year things while we all wait on those rolling out.
We have a holiday weekend at a hotel with dinner and some sort of activity to go with our drinking. This year it was a Family Feud style game show. My team won and we got a flat screen TV. Our gift from the firm was a Kindle Fire and a branded rolling cooler. I got Amex gift cards from my attorneys.
No. In fact, in response to a paralegal sending out an email that she'll be on vacation over the holidays, one of the partners sent out an email that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were staff holidays, but that the office is open/available and attorneys are encouraged to work on those days. I work for a suburban 10 attorney firm that focuses on bank litigation and consumer matters - no one has a pending multimillion international deal pending that needs attention on those days.
They eliminated the holiday party two years ago and don't even do a holiday lunch/breakfast or really anything to thank their employees. The best we get is they share their personal holiday party leftovers with the office and allow us to share in the office gifts.
No gift but she did order in lunch for us from a good restaurant. Much better that what we usually get. We don't get anything from the company and no Christmas party.
I got a gift. Some Crate & Barrel snowflake bowls, snowflake coasters & a tea towel. Also some chocolate covered peanuts. It was nice. No bonus though. I get a gift from DHs firm--they do spouse gifts which I thought was unusually nice.
Got a bonus from the company. My "official" manager, no. (She is in our corporate headquarters, see her once a year.) My unofficial, dotted-line-on-the-org-chart manager, yes, she gave me a gift card for a salon near the office.

My boss have always done something. Last year I got some chocolates and a $10 gc. The year prior my boss (different department) gave me a Christmas Decoration, the other lady received a nice picture frame and the men all got a case of beer.
Our director will often do a custom made bag of candy, cookies, and a card or gift cards.
The company usually hosts a Holiday part at a banquet center. We get lunch, door prizes and the rest of the day off.
My boss bought each of us a coconut cake this year that he had shipped from from a restaurant in SC (we are in PA.) It is awesome, but DH and I have no clue what to do with all this cake! I cut it up and put some in the freezer last night and there's still a ton in the freezer.

Yes, he gives our entire staff $100 and drops us at the mall to go shopping for gifts just for us. He has done this since I started working 3 years ago. Then he takes us out to lunch. This year he took us out to lunch twice and we did secret santa with the entire staff.
