Terrible! My H was really pushy and impatient and totally inconsiderate to the fact that its freaky swimming in open water for the first time. I could swim fine, until I tried to put my head in, and then I would panic because I would feel like a big log was going to pop out of the murky water right in front of my face (logically, I know it was too deep for that). So I tried keeping my eyes closed and just opening them to breathe and sight, but as soon as I would get a glimpse of underwater, I would panic. Meanwhile, my H is checking his watch (nowhere to be) and saying "come ON."
It was very frustrating. I'll try again with my tri club on Thursday. I think having other swimmers around will help a lot.

You'll get it! It took me awhile to get used to opening my eyes under water!! I'm like you and start to think "well I'm sure if I open my eyes I will see a gigantic fish swimming at me or the WORST a dead body" I know I know it's silly. But I do/did it. The more you go and just swim the better it will be, especially when you are with your group! Good luck!
