I got a video camera for my 13th birthday. I'm assuming I'm supposed to give a Christmas gift, but this is the top of the list.
I spent the next year or so interviewing family members about Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or whatever holiday it was. And then I would gather everyone in the living room for our family newscast. Journalism started early for me.
Barbie Dream House. My mom was able to get one second-hand from someone at church since a brand new one was too $$. She put carpet in each room left over from samples she had from the year before putting new carpet in our house. I played with that thing for years and still have such great memories of it.
When I was about 8 and my sister was 5, we both had a toy we wanted SO BAD but our parents couldn't afford. She wanted a My Size Barbie and I wanted a Ricochet remote control car. Both were $100+ toys. My grandparents do not EVER EVER EVER buy toys. It is money or clothes for Xmas from them, but that year "santa" forgot to leave them out at our house and mixed them up with my cousin Joe's presents. Best. Xmas. Ever. I found out later that my grandfather told my gram to not come home until she had those toys.

When I was 5 or 6, I got a Barbie jeep. My sister got a little mermaid car and my cousin on the same block had a black powerwheels jeep. We cruised those sidewalks like we owned them!

I got a video camera for christmas when I was 10 and I loved that thing. I filmed everyone and everything when family got together and then would make everyone sit and watch the tapes I made.
It's a toss-up between the set of My Little Ponies I got when I was 7 (it was one of those multipacks, and there must have been a dozen ponies included. I was OBSESSED and played with those things for years) or the CD player I got when I was 16. Listening to my own music in my own room? BLEW MY MIND. I was not the most sophisticated teen.
Gammy and Poppy bought me a bike...it was awesome. It was white with red decals and a blue banana seat and red, white and blue metallic streamers. God, I loved that bike.
